Hiddson: Hello everyone and Welcome to Bandits Breakdown. Your one stop shop for all things Las Vegas Bandits. Brett Hiddson along with Terrence Thursday and Issabelle Holt on the sidelines at Bandit Valley. Week one is in the books Terry. So much action throughout the league and hope from the best teams to up and comers knowing this is a new season and a new chance to make it to the Furry bowl, including our Desert Desperadoes.
Thursday: That's right, Brett. First week for the Bandits would be against the Chicago Outlaws, A high powered offense, led by Darius Smith, Koriun Masquarde, and Second year standout runner, Jean-Étienne Tremblay. A powerful running back forcing you commit 8 to the box which Smith and Masq are well known to take advantage of.
Hiddson: A great test for the coach Erinia and his new 3-4 defense, 1st round pick Drew Coleman doing so many good things in the preseason, earning his first start of the season ready for the challenge.
*transitions to the highlight reel, starting with Sylvester Stapler, Coby Carson, Kelley Rowe, and Drew Coleman the new linebacker*
Hiddson: Onto the week one highlights! So good seeing familiar faces and new ones as well. Scary moment though for Bandit fans, defense on the field as Smith finds the complete pass to Olen Reuyters, Hopper trying to make the tackle as Dudley Doleman joins in to gang tackle him down but an awkward step as he sizes Olen up and he suffers an ankle injury. He will be out for at least a week.
Thursday: Unfortunate for anyone especially in the first game of the season but injuries happen in a league like this. It's up to Rudolfo Paulson to step up for the downed strong safety.
Hiddson: Wouldn't work however as Smith catches Paulson creeping up to the box to respect Tremblay. Finding Korin Masquarde for the touchdown. Bandits Trail 0-7 and would remain that way until the third. Stapler fresh off a sack from Edmond Theisen. Looks for Stephen Harris for the touchdown but David Locke has other ideas with a huge interception, returning it all the way to the Outlaws own 41 yard line.
Thursday: Yeah he darted the pass trying to get it by the defense but, tremendous instincts by the willdebeest to pick it off from the endzone and get good field position for his team.
Hiddson: It would have been but, with Smith hurt earlier in the second quarter, Nigel Seals now having to lead this offense. And in this moment, elects to pass to tight end Byrus Downey, but that is picked off, by Rudolfo Paulson making up for the previous score with a pick of his own and returning it all the to the 4 yard line! Bandits would run the ball in with Blaine Vernon, the wild dog netting the first touchdown for the Bandits this season.
Thursday: Huge turn of events for the Bandits as Paulson makes up for his previous error with a turnover. Blaine Vernon taking advantage of his number being called too as the defense having trouble handling the duo of Paige and Vernon on the ground.
Hiddson: And it would continue, Paige putting up numbers on the ground and with Stapler's passes. Wearing them down for Blain Vernon to take the goal line formation and running in for his second touchdown of the game! 14-7 Desert Desperadoes lead it.
Thursday: A good display from both Paige and Vernon the last few drives, when the opposing defense tires of one back, the second back goes right in to cause more trouble for them, ultimately should make Stapler's and Erinia's job easier to not have Paige do all the heavy lifting like last season.
Hiddson: Fourth quarter now, Rookie Kicker Raleigh Cooper, try saying that 5 times fast. From 32 yards out is good. Good kick right down the middle for the rookie. But the Outlaws would not be done. Seals orchestrating a tough drive down 10 in the 4th. Bandits making them earn seemingly every first down. 4th and Goal now. Can the Bandits get the goal line stand to ice the game? No! Seals with a jump ball to former Bandit, Ellsworth Starr! 17-14. with :56 on the clock! Onside kick has to happen for the Outlaws to extend the game. But Kyle Gradkowski denies them with the secure. Stapler ices the game with runs to Paige and Vernon and the Bandits survive the Outlaws 17-14!
Thursday: Tough game for both teams but Bandits keep their composure after allowing the touchdown with a tremendous special teams play.
Hiddson: Right Terry. And even earlier on with a huge field goal by Raleigh Cooper. New faces making an impact. And one of those faces is right with Issabelle Holt. Issy?
Holt: Thank you Brett, I'm here with rookie kicker, Raleigh Cooper whose first field goal was the difference of the game. I hope Vegas hasn't been too harsh for you weather wise compared to Alaska.
Raleigh Cooper: Nice ta meet ya miss Holt. Id be lying if I said the weather wasn't a problem, but I've been working to try to acclimatize myself do different weather. After All I didn't know where I might have ended up.
Holt: Raleigh were there any if at all nerves for you for your first game?
Cooper: I'll admit I was pretty nervous, I mean sure the pre-season games helped out, but nothing can really prepare you for that first Official Season Game.
Holt: What goes into your routine before lining up for that field goal?
Cooper: Well It's a number of things. It all depends on where ya are when you need to make the kick. Like how much force ya gotta put behind it and hell even wind resistance if there is any. But when it comes down to it I tell myself "Kick it, to win it"
Holt: Words to live by, I'd say, Thank you Raleigh and keep it up. ... Back to you Brett.
Hiddson: Thank you Issabelle! We will take a short break but when we return, more interviews with the team and our preview of the next game against the Downriver Waves.
