Well, most people who attempt to kill dragons for glory/fame, will inevitably find themselves in such a position... they just overestimate their own capabilities and underestimate the dangers that fighting a dragon might pose.

Oh i don't doubt that at all, and i actually find it funny when those slayers do end up getting what they deserve.

I mean, why can't they learn to distinguish a peaceful and calm dragon from more problematic ones that raid villages and such things?
They seem to not care that dragons aren't just mindless beasts, but sentient and - due to their age - often more knowledgeable than any of them will ever be...
It's not like all dragons are of the aggressive and violent variety, many just want to be left alone and live their lives in peace, but those slayers hunt them down regardless of that fact, just because they think it brings them glory, while all it does, is to turn more dragons against humans and bring some dragons that would've normally lived a peaceful and quiet life, to the point that they'll just start to kill every human on sight, no matter who it is...

if you really think about it, it's nothing more than gloried murder, killing something that is different, that 'can' be a threat makes it right?
Humans act like they any different than that, that they are the chosen race to dictate the lives of all others, they aren't.
The glory seekers get what's coming to them.
