Some of us might remember days when it seemed like our only link to the outside world was our transistor radio, and the nighttime DJ of a favorite radio station seemed like our only friend. And telephones had cords.
This sketch of Marsha RedFox was done at a local "Drink N Draw" group, where the theme was "Nostalgia". (We had to explain what a "transistor radio" was. And that phones used to have cords.)

My dad's number was KDL 8635. The CB craze was mercifully short. I grew up among radio engineers and my biggest thrill was listening to an old Army shortwave when I was a kid. Tubes, of course. But I would listen to Russia and China and England and it was like teleportation. My microchip radios are O K, but nothing beats turning the dial one inch every five minutes. The net, is, of course, superior but it lacks the portability of a small shortwave. Radio Cuba is a riot and I love listening to the hate. And that is what I have to say about that!
I do, unfortunately. 1975-76 I was in Phoenix going to school and repairing commercial two-way radios and CBs for a living during the CB craze. No fun being on top of a motor home in August adjusting co-phased antennas.. There's a whole different language in the CB world. And C.W. McCall led the pack! Off to favorite the FA Shadowwoods pages! Stubat
Very related music, I was still in high school when it was a hit and I remember seeing it on Country Music Television

Always nice to see Marsha! Thanks for the song link, too. Loved running that a couple times again.. (Yes, I own some very early transistor radios, and enjoy restoring them, as well as various portable tube radios..) One of the first mobile phones I worked on was in the trunk of a Checker cab, and dimmed all the lights in the vehicle when talking. Lots of tubes in that one... I is old... Again, thanks to the wonderful Ozfoxes! (Coming up on calendar time soon, too...)
