Yeah, Arizona and New Mexico's monsoons can be harrowing, but they're nowhere near as bad as these monsoons. D: You can easily drown.

ive been in the desert before when rain happens, they can get a year's worth of rainfall over the course of a couple weeks!

Yep - Afghanistan and Arizona are that way. In this world, you have a VERY good reason to get the hell away from a monsoon, cause it will bring enough rain to cause floods, sometimes with powerful winds. (Usually it's just the flooding.)
