So, my creative writing class had an assignment in which we had to write a poem about a memory from our childhood. I chose this one.

The look on his face set my heart racing,
My breathing increased to match the brisk pacing.
I giggled and ran, he couldn't catch me!
Then, sadly, I tripped and I scraped up my knee.
I cried out in pain, and he then scooped me up.
He put some salve on my knee and some juice in my cup.
He held me and kissed me and let me just cry
Until my very last tear fell away from my eye.
"Be careful," he said, his voice deep and strong.
But, being so young, I didn't listen for long.
I was a terror, a brat, so crazy and wild
That one would never believe that I was his child!
Of course I ran off, his words in the past,
But I was more careful this time than the last.

That night as he bundled me up warm in my bed,
He chuckled, and smiled, and then kissed my head.
He said goodnight softly and then turned to leave.
I snuggled my Eeyore and tugged on his sleeve.
"Daddy" I said, "I really love you."
He chuckled and turned, then said, "I love you, Goo.
