The key word here I believe is "prefer". While she'd rather scare someone shitless into obedience, I'm sure she's more than capable of taking far more direct means, should threats and scare tactics prove inefficient. One not versed in magic is ill advised to piss off someone who is. There is likely worse things they can do to you than mere physical harm.

Yeah, that "thing" seems pretty skilled, and of course they have a kind of relationship, but I wouldn't call it the kind of romantic relationship that would keep a self-confident, strong woman from trying her luck with others.

And still, she accepted him as one of her own.

Cebron isn't Nailah's "lover" as much as he is her servant...he does what she requires in order to keep her happy, and in turn she provides him with the physical link to the mortal realm he needs to exist as something other than smokeless flame.

Yes, she enjoys her sexytimes with Cebron, but they've both been known to include a third person to bed when the mood suits Nailah ;).

Also, its interesting to see a modern/sci-fi setting with magic and gods. Quite novel actually! Unless its more common than I think...

Well, it is very difficult to mix it, particularly because if the technology in Science Fiction is advanced enough so there are no limits to the use, it becomes literaly indistinguishable from magic to the viewer and/or reader.

Scappo seems to have pulled it off, but then again we haven't seen much technology yet... Hmm... perhaps its more fantasy than sci-fi?

Are we forgetting Stargate and Thor? Both created a perfect setting where advanced technology and magic could walk hand in hand. Intertwined yet separate. I think it is completely plausible for a realm to exist where a mage wielding fireballs could duel with a space marine and his plasma rifle.

...I didn't forget about them... I just have never watched them! XD

Personally, I am toying with the idea of a world with WWI/1920s-1930s technology with mages that access magic due to the actions of Daemons from other dimensions (Daemons give magic power - some for free becasue they are good matured, others for souls, others because they need a hobby, etc). That would work - but I also intend to make it post Cold War, which complicates things.
