It is a somber day, that we remember the events of 9-11-2001.
15 years ago, planes struck the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. All those lives lost and changed is uncountable. The heroes who worked tirelessly to dig through the rubble and wreckage to find survivors. I will never forget this day.
I was in school, just started 6th grade, i was 12. I was in English class when the phone in the room rang and within seconds our teacher turned on the TV and we watched in disbelief of what was happening. After they called an early release and everyone went home to be with our families. I remember that once i got home, my family stationed ourselves in front of the tv for hours, watching the news on repeat it seemed. We were quiet and holding hands and crying.
The next day at school, it was a free day, we created large posters uniting everyone at school and writing letters to anyone who was affected and we were told our letters would be sent to survivors.
So today we remember the events of 9 11 with a heavy heart and we acknowledge the peoples lives that were lost and the people who gave everything so we could live on.

I was in my forth grade class when it happened. I remember the door opened and someone asked out teacher to step out and when he came back inside he wasn't his normal jovial self. He spoke in a somber tone and told us that people had just crashed planes into the World Trade Centers in New York. I remember everyone in my class began to look really worried and people were talking about family members in New York at the time and I felt increasingly bad because at the time I didn't even know what the World Trade Centers was. He turned on the TV in the corner of the room and flipped over to the news and we saw the big clouds and fireballs as the planes hit and I just felt cold; like when your so afraid it feels like your heart just stops and the rest of you gets just freezing cold? It's that feeling like when you see your parents fighting and they're REALLY REALLY mad at each other and you realize you're powerless to stop anything in those moments. I don't recall if we were let out early or not but I still remember it to this day. My heart goes out to all the people who lost people in that horrible attack, to all the kids who've grown up without parents, and for all the heartbroken spouses. What happened that day was nothing short of heinous and I hope deeply that one day the radicalized ideology that promoted this is not only defeated but finally destroyed outright and that the people of New York and of this country come back from this one day stronger than ever before and with honor and sympathy for everything and everyone that was taken away from us.
