Hiddson: Hello and welcome once again to Bandits Breakdown! Your one stop shop for all things Las Vegas Bandits. Brett Hiddson, along with Terrence Thursday. Terry, Bandits off to a good start after the win against the Outlaws, now on to a Downriver Waves team, that has some pieces but are still trying to shake off the rough previous season.
Thursday: Rough is a nice way of putting it, Brett. From Champions in 2014 to dead last in 2015. Not the kind of display fans in Michigan were hoping for. But as we've said last week it's a new season and for them it's back to the drawing board now.
Hiddson: Nowhere to go but up indeed, Terry. Bandits, needless to say took care of business last season winning both games against them last year. But that was last season. Will the Waves have a better chance of upsetting the Bandits? Or will the desert desperadoes continue their strong play? That is why they play the game...
*highlight film begins showing Stapler tossing practice footballs to Roy Viridi-Aqua.*
Hiddson: Stapler and Virid-Aqua ready to go and would they ever get off to a good start.
KLVB Radio Announcer: First and 10 from the Waves 45. Stapler in Shotgun with Harris and Renata on the right, Viridi-Aqua on the left. Takes the high snap. Surveying the field... looking for R.V.A. on the post and catches the pass and it's a footrace! 25, 20. 15. 10, 5... Touchdown! Roy Viridi-Aqua with a 45 yard touchdown reception just outrunning the corner and safety!
Hiddson: That was from our friends at KLVB Radio! Stapler to Viridi-Aqua! Nice to see that connection hook up for another touchdown, Terry.
Thursday: You're right Brett. Stapler doing a great job looking off the safety away from R.V.A.'s general direction and throws an absolute laser to Roy for an nice catch and a great run for the score.
Hiddson: But soon in the quarter here come the Waves. Goal line situation at the one yard line. First down pass from Bobby Burnette to Jesse Oahu, just over his paws incomplete. Second down. Castora... cant get by Rudolfo Paulson, still taking over for Dudley Doleman as he rests that ankle injury. Doleman loving it on the sidelines. Third and goal.. Sneak by Burnette and a cloud of dust... refs sort the situation... Touchdown Waves! Bandits couldn't get the goal line stand!
Thursday: Cheeky but effective play by Bobby Burnette. The Line had a good initial push but couldn't sustain it long enough last play for Castora, so he takes it himself and gets the ball just across that plane for to even up the score. Nice try Bandits.
Hiddson: After Raleigh Cooper field goal in the 2nd quarter. Bandits lead 10-7 Third Quarter action.. Bobby Burnette with trying to shake off a pick from Captain Quick. Leading the Waves downfield to the 31 yard line, finding Kerry Fowler with an amazing catch over Marus Hopper and Rudolfo Paulson trying to defend it. Touchdown. Waves lead it 14-10.
Thursday: Hopper thought he had it right on his claw, but it just wsn't enough as the Macaw gets a little higher than the Hare.
Hiddson: Another tough break for the Bandits. But they would respond in the 4th Quarter. Stapler leading his team down field to start the Quarter finding key first downs. Until..
KLVB Radio: Stapler play fakes to Paige, has Viridi-Aqua on single coverage... and Caught! Touchdown Bandits! Bandits take the lead with a 26 yard pass from Stapler to R.V.A! His second touchdown of the game and of the season.
Hiddson: Once again from our friends at KLVB, Stapler once again showing his stuff, as an excellent play faker that still fools defenses, And they'll knock on the door again this time from within the Waves ten yard line. But third and 6 from the waves sevan falls incomplete to Vernon and the Bandits would have to take the field goal. 20-14.
Thursday: With time starting to run short for the Waves. But Bobby wouldn't give up just yet. Leading a drive down the field including a 36 yard pass to Samamtha Castora, leading them to the two.
Hiddson: 2nd and goal from the two Burnette to Steven Crane! Touchdown Waves 21-20! Bandits nation is stunned, and the Waves fans are roaring! Stapler couldn't get a drive going as he gets sacked by Hendrix Blake to ice the game for the Waves. What a game for the Waves. And the Bandits fall to 1-1. Leaving the Texas Ramblers as the sole possessors of first in the conference and the Bandits in a 4 way tie for second place.
Thursday: Tough loss for the Bandits, as that drive they had in the 4th after the touchdown and only getting a field goal. They could have gotten the first down without scoring there. To get 4 more downs and most likely put the game out of reach. But the field goal, left the door open just enough for the Waves to get through.
Hiddson: And we'll take a short break but when we return, reaction from the coaching staff and players, and an look at the next game for the Bandits against the Montreal Royal, formerly known as the Abilene Lancers.
