There was this notice board stating how this is part of the 'Jurassic Coastline' .. I'm not big in Geology terms but from what I could see of the sign its OLD and there was this other sign stating for no rock-hammers or fossil hunting, I had a quick sniff round but couldn't find one, and I really did cos I would have gotten an awesome picture of one :P

That's some really nice geology The ledgy bits are actually shale and they don't weather as readily as the rocks in between, that's why you get that pattern. A lot of the south coast of England has rocks of Jurassic age. You're actually pretty close to Lyme Regis where Mary Anning first discovered marine reptiles in the early 19th century. But this isn't the time for a lecture =P
