Time Periods commission, '1860's Civil War era'' for
asphyxia_lemieux of her character as a southern belle and
Furlop as a Union soldier. She mentioned having some tension in the image so I played around a lot with lighting and colors/mood this time. I've also been trying to work in narratives lately, this one had probably been the most successful in that regard so far.
omg I've been using photoshop way too much lately. I've been working on small things on the side lately (no scanner so I can't show anyone D,=), and as I was coloring with my prismas I made a little mistake and watched as my hand reached for ctrl-z..... I covered it with a dive into the bag of chips >P
Edit: I wrote 'Confederate' instead of 'Union' in the title... Southerners all countrywide are dropping dead... xP

Great piece, and Asphyxia's unusual colouration gives an interesting interpretation. Which side is he / are they fleeing from, I wonder?

I'm finally able to make a comment! I would have last night but I wasn't home when I saw this uploaded. Viewing and posting from an iPhone is pesky business! Especially when at a baseball stadium with my son while watching the semi-finals to the World Baseball Classic! I would have posted last night, but I was dead tired and this morning I was still sleepy-headed to make coherent thoughts.
Anyway, thank you Bixie for yet another splendid commission and as I was telling in you in Notes I simply love it! You certainly have outdone yourself once again. The dramatic lighting definitely adds to the scene and increases the feeling of tension that is evident on the character's faces and poses. You've captured the moment very well. ^_^
The costuming is wonderful and nicely detailed too. I love how you chose to portray Furlop as wounded and bandaged. It really emphasizes the scene more so. The whole image wordlessly tells a story and conveys a sort of plight of the two involved. The protective body language they share between each other tells yet another story of the relationship they have together.
Thanks again Bixie!

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! The whole thing was really an experiment. I loved the idea of the opposing sides, it completely inspired me =D Before I even started to sketch I was thinking up a story that might explain why a Union soldier was together with a southern Belle. It was so much fun! xDD I'm really happy with the result and it's just that much better that you and Furlop liked it as well
