This was for two friends of mine. 
tristantheowl, the barn owl, wrote a story that led to this picture. In the story, in this alternate universe where anthroburds are playing out WW2 history, his character emigrated back to Germany at the start of the war and joined the Luftwaffe. He was a great fighter pilot with many victories but as the war went on, he became critical of the Nazi regime and waited for his chance to defect. In a mission over England, his chance came when his wingman was shot down. 
silvergriffin21, the golden eagle-dragon gryphon, shot Tristan's BF-109 down before realizing Tristan's intentions. Too weak to bail out, he belly landed in a pasture and Silver came to his aid. There's lots of details here including custom insignia (a gryphon and the Welsh roundel) on Silver's Spitfire. This was a hatchday present for Tristan Dwyer and, I suppose, a pre-emptive one for Silver.
