I spent this past weekend at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, located in Kanab, Utah. Best Friends is the largest no-kill animal shelter in the US, and they have a TV show called Dogtown, which airs on the National Geographic channel.

I spent the weekend in Dogtown as a volunteer, so I helped walk the dogs, helped and helped socialize them. The girl in this picture is Lola. Here's what her description page has to say:

"She came to Best Friends from an animal shelter, where it was said that she could be very unpredictable with men. Sure enough, she seems worried about men with beards. (Did one hurt her once?)"

But as you can see, she loved me, beard and all. This was the best weekend I've had in a long time. We met so many dogs and they were all so wonderful. They were all abandoned, or hoarded, or strays at one point and they've all come so far and deserve a real home with a real family. You can't imagine how loving these dogs are until you meet them in person.
