In the Redwall books, an otter's tail is never referred to as a tail. It's referred to as a rudder, and this illustration quite brilliantly shows why that is. They really are rudders in the water.
And I really hear you about lack of self promotion. It's why I too am unemployed after several years of trying to get a job in my field.
