Grimaera
The name comes from the Icelandic word 'grĂma', which means mask and 'chimera' (which both in the biological and mytholical sense is a creature consisting of different parts of different animals or individuals)
Even though every Grimaera is unique, they have some traits in common.
Their most regonizable feature are their mask-like faces, with their feline or lapine like appearances, only much flatter. Their eyes lie deep and usually have a faint glow. They usually paint their faces with ground-up minerals and plant juices.
They also have thick, coarse fur on their head, shoulders and chest.
Their hands/front paws resemble those of large mammal predators, such as bears' or lions', but their legs/hind paws resemble those of hoofed animals. But exceptions do happen.
They also have sections of their bodies plated with thick scales (or the like), somewhat like an armadillo or kirin. The type of scales vary widely.
They have some magical abilities.
Due to their mask like faces and lack of being able to express themselves with facial expressions, they use a weak form of telepathy to show their feelings. This works by sending a wave of vague colours and emotions through the receiver's body. Only a few Grimaera can control to block this ability, and hide their true emotions.
They have two forms, humanoid like this and beast-like:

(here you can also see examples of different types of Grimaeras)
Their magical and telepathic abilities are stronger when in beast form. They rarely talk in beast-form and communicate with each other using telepathics.
