“Did you see the way his reactor exploded? Two hits from the plasma accelerator and BOOM!”
“How could I not see it, after all I was piloting our ship.”
‘Dmitri’s’ had long been one of Saratov Station’s most popular bars, especially with independent pilots. And with the Ringr system at the centre of a lucrative trade hub, it was the destination of choice for pilots of all allegiances.
Such as the two sharks sat at the bar.
Nika Akulina shook her head and sipped at her drink with a smile as she listened to her co-pilot and gunnery control officer, Jax Valkyr, needlessly engage in a re-telling of the engagement they had been a part of. Their ship, a heavily-modified ‘Federal Corvette’, stood out on one of the docking platforms, and was in the process of being refuelled. That also made Dmitri’s a popular place to relax in, it had a stunning view of the station’s central and slowly-rotating docking spine and the myriad of ships that were docked there, and of the blue-tinted world that it orbited.
“Learn to unwind more Nika,” Jax drawled as she knocked back another shot of the imported Altairian Whiskey. “You don’t have to be so serious all the time.”
“Hey, I know how to have a good time,” Nika retorted as she took a hearty gulp of her own fiery drink. The blue-striped tiger shark leaned back against the bar and flashed a suggestive wink in the direction of her pale cream-white and grey great white shark co-pilot. “It’s just a pity that you’re not open to it more often.”
“Yeah, yeah…”
“Hey babe, how about I show you a good time. Your friend too.”
They both turned in the direction of the scruffy-looking male that had been rudely eavesdropping and butted in. The wolfish pilot, his ship suit of a decidedly patchwork nature in comparison to the fashionably practical clothing the two sharks wore, grinned at them. He reeked of cheap liquor. He also reeked of being a pirate. Or a least a particularly disreputable bounty hunter.
“Uh, no thanks. Take a hike, bud.”
Nika wrinkled her pointed pierced nose in disgust as he leaned forward to her, plainly ignoring her warning to get lost. She preferred to just handle such situations calmly[i] and [i] coolly.
“Oh, I’m so sorry you’re such a cold fish. Whadda about your foxy friend here?”
Nika let out a whistle through her teeth and shook her head theatrically as the gutter-pilot laid a meaty gloved handpaw on Jax’s shoulder and squeezed it in a lascivious fashion. A toothy grin split the pointy-snouted pale white maw of the fiery-tempered and aggressive albino shark.
Nika slipped off her stool and as she walked to a safe distance, patted the back of the scruffy pilot in an almost comradely fashion, knowing what was about to happen to him and the world of pain he was in for.
“You shouldn’t have done that…”
Holy crap, is this a wonderful looking piece of artwork. tales_foxdale has worked his magic once more in this shared Elite Dangerous themed piccy featuring my battlesharksona Jax Valkyr, left, and my friend nikasharkeh on the right. We're both big fans of the franchise, with my own love for the it going back to Elite and Frontier: Elite II. Tales has really outdone himself this time though with this spaceport bar scene and it's gorgeous lighting.
