11" x 17". ink, pencil. 2005.
The recent camel stuff, plus seeing something by ebryn, reminded me
of this older image. I do so very much like wildebeest (or "wildebai"), but
they gets almost no love anywhere. I like how they are stong and gangly
at the same time, and the whole whippy tail and mane thing and the horns
and big ears and noses :D what's not to like. Except how it all fits together :P
They've got all the right parts, buuuut...
They've got horns, but they aren't at all beefy like a bull, so there isn't much for that crowd. They've got hooves and manes and so on, but they aren't as graceful and classically beautiful as horses, so nix on that. They've got stripes, but c'mon, zebras and tigers are so much classier, I'll admit. They have scrawy little legs and hips, but they are sooo disproportionately top heavy in the upper back and neck that they can't really pull off the "twink" look either. Plus they're herd animals, I mean, they aren't even terribly clever, or gracefully fast like an antelope or whatever.
Whatever the attribute is, other more attractive animals have it better.
However, even the least interesting person in the room has that singular
attribute nobody else in the room possesses.
But yeah, with that said, I've only made this one image of them :P
Will have to get on that. I would more personally identify with them,
except that I'm really not that cool, and I have no further understanding of
them other than what they look like.
Oh, to see just how little love they get, check out the wikipedia article.
The text is barely longer than the picture :P Compare that to... oh say,
"cat".
Also, didn't they kill Mufasa? :D
Please refrain from pointing me to any Gary Gnu rule 34, kthnx.

D'aww, he's great, I'm loving the thick neck/head/shoulders dealio. and the thick lines on the hooves.
I pencilled a Gnu girl transformation pic but didn't upload it as it wasn't as dynamic as the thumbnail. I figured, in much the same way, that the ungulates didn't get enough love. :-P

Umm I am FAVING this because I OWN it and I love it and that seems like that right thing to carry out over here
It's always struck me as that which I can't do in my own work; simplistic but with a lot of detail, using otherwise gaudy colors for a serene organic powerful image, superb composition, mix of media and confident strokes all almost effortlessly telling of a story with unique, wonderful depth behind it
Plus I saw your vermiform uploads and I'm like reminded, I gotta get me some paf all up in my faves
I need to own moar. Two pieces of CGoodwin art not enough~
(I also own a tiny wood burning you did of a horse's butt/rearing YOU GIVE ME SUCH HOOF LOVE)
