I remember these characters. Nice that you decided to write a prompt with them. This tale had a lot of dialog and foreshadowing, but not really action. Still, it's interesting how you set up the characters and the environment in the story. Very nice little piece, I enjoyed reading this. Good work.
I like how you focus on the anthro aspect of Walther's character. The fact that it's difficult for him to move because it's cold and he needs to warm up; and how his hunched posture has advantages in the tournament. Simply things like that really stand out.
Wonder what will happen in the next round?

I really liked how you built your sense of place and your characters. Now I'm curious as to why Absolom has a problem with hyenas- seems like a stereotypical lion-vs-hyena "bigotry" and I'm wanting to know how that came about with him in particular. And Walther's nervousness came through really well- his sense of forboding all through the story, especially in relation to this hyena trainer drew me along nicely.
There's more to this...older pieces, actually. The first one written is actually the last one that happened, named "Tussle" at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1264636/
It should be easy to pick these stories out of my gallery, I used the same handsome tegu as a marker for each of them. Just look for the same picture!
