Hiddson: Hello and welcome once again to Bandits Breakdown! Your one stop shop for all things Las Vegas Bandits. Welcome to the post game show. I'm Brett Hiddson along with Terrence Thursday and Issabelle Holt our on-field reporter. The Bandits coming off a big win against the Edmonton Royal, now have another tough game on their paws taking on the Texas Ramblers, Terry.
Thursday: That's right Brett, The Ramblers met the Bandits in the first round of last season's playoffs. And the Ramblers camp firmly believes had Calder not been hurt they would have changed the game's outcome. But that was ultimately in the past now and Greg Russell had a fine performance considering. But still some would believe they marked this game on their calendars ready for the challenge ahead.
Hiddson: Fortunately for Bandits fans, they too would be up for the challenge. But could they get it done?... That's why they play the games...
*highlights begin showing Lezra Astrah and Ricky Wit-Ricky in their practice routines before moving on to the game plays*
Hiddson: Ramblers giving the nod to throw their rookies, Wyvern Quarterback Lezra Astrah and Squirrel Running Back Ricky Wit-Ricky, into the fray. From the looks of the first drive, not the best idea Sacked by Justin Brown! And they would have to punt.
Thursday: Nice strength by Brown, Over powering the lineman and getting to Big Lez for the sack. Sometimes it's better to bull rush than to spin or dance around the big guys.
Hiddson: Bandits first possession. Look at Sylvester Stapler, escapes the rush, gonna go over the line-- No he's not! Finding Terry Paige, And Whoop! A nice move to get by one defender, and Whoop! Another move Whoop Whoop! Feeling like a video game as he makes is way to the end zone! 7-0 Bandits.
Thursday: Yet another great athletic display from Stapler, avoiding the rush and finding his check down for the score.
Hiddson: Ramblers would respond with two made field goals to make it 7-6. Second quarter action. Bandits drive stalls and would have to punt. The Rookies looking a lot better than their first drive. Especially Astrah, Big Lez finding his big guns, Jaqueline Knight for a 39 yard pass, then Nash Pony for a 26 yard pass. Later in the drive Astrah to Knight, Touchdown and the lead for the Ramblers, He's a rookie, Terry?
Thursday: Showing the league why they drafted him with a great drive to pick apart the defense backfield for huge chunks 13-7.
Hiddson: Third Quarter action and the Defense would have to make some sort of adjustment right? Astrah leading the charge to a 1st and 5 and Picked off by Captain Quick! And there he goes... Running wild and free... but not enough as Knight and Astrah catch up in time to save the touchdown! A 76 yard Interception return.
Thursday: Great play by Carson jumping the route and giving the Bandits offense good field position to work with. Bandits unfortunately would only get a field goal from the turnover, Brett.
Hiddson: Yes and that would add to the Ramblers confidence wouldn't it? Ensuing drive Astrah looking more and more like a veteran leader the more he sends them down the field, Ricky Wit-Ricky gets a pass, and Knight gets a pass, Mansfield and Penguinator get passes to keep the drive alive, Everyone gets a pass, including Wyatt Curran for the touchdown! 20-10 Bandits trailing the Ramblers. And Bandit Valley's boo birds are in full force!
Thursday: Great plays by Astrah not even letting Carson's pick last possession or pass deflect that possession eve faze him. The Bandits looking to be in trouble, Brett.
Hiddson: And in the fourth quarter the Bandits have had enough. Stapler to Harris for 23 yards... later same drive Stapler play faking to Harris once more for 24 yards and their on the doorstep. Next play Terry Paige in a familiar setting, the end zone! Touchdown Bandits! 20-17 Ramblers still lead it and respond with good field position after a Kova Lewdko 40 yard kick return. But the Ramblers were 3 and outed by the Bandits Defense. Stapler finds Roy Viridi-Aqua, then Harris for 25 yards.... seeing a trend here? Harris would buck the trend though, by going 44 yards on the next catch. 3rd and goal. Terry Paige powering through for the 6 yard touchdown! 24-20 Bandits retake the lead Comeback complete and the Ramblers are stunned, but they still have another chance.
Thursday: But nice work from Stephen Harris, breaking down Steve Campos over the last few drives to get big plays. Setting up some touchdown runs for Paige.
Hiddson: Last chance for the Ramblers, 11 seconds left, Astrah with a hail Mary to Curran but broken up by Sierra. Ball game. Bandits win it. And a fine win thanks to the defense holding the Ramblers to nothing in the fourth quarter and the offense with two touchdown drives to complete the comeback.
Thursday: Big win for the Desert Desperadoes, Brett. Sometimes the biggest wins are done the ugly way, being down ten in the fourth. Fans booing you. But the team stayed composed and found a way to grind out a win. It will be important from here on out.
Hiddson: And not a moment too soon, Terry. We'll take a short break but when we return, post game interviews, and a look at the Bandits next opponent, the defending champion, New York Titans.
