Yep had to see how he'd translate to pixels and get a palette going for him. Was an attempt to avoid lines by starting with colored shapes but my style is so cartoony, I can't really excape black outlines.

Earthly browns and soil colors are obviously good for a guy like him and I like the colors you did go with.
Personally I could never get color pencils very dark, even throwing in black everywhere won't go nearly as dark as I'd think. And when using colors I prefer to get a good hue over getting them dark looking. That's why I love graphite and charcoal, they go on easier and I can focus on the luminosity more.
