The Flûtreau Silguy taken at the Days of the Vienne river at Châtellerault.
A Flûtreau is a traditional type of small boat which was mostly used on the Loire river.
This photo was taken near of the bridge Henri IV, the main bridge of the city of Châtellerault which was built between 1571 and 1609 on the bases of a wooden bridge built at the beginning of the XIth century, around 50 years after the first apparition of the city of Châtellerault in the History. In the middle of the 14th century, at the beginnig of the Hundred Years' War, the bridge was somewhat fortified with two stone towers at each extremities which are always standing at their places, at the end of the war, in 1453, the bridge was badly damaged and had to be repaired. In 1556, the rise in the water level destroyed the bridge and the damages were so important that the French king Henri II commanded the construction of a new stone bridge which will become this bridge Henri IV but the construction is stopped at the death of the king in 1559. The construction was taken back under the reign of the king Charles X in 1565 but is slowed by the French Wars of Religions which opposed the Catholic to the Protestants and only was ended in 1609, under the reign of Henri IV who gave his name to this bridge.
