Daybreak, outside the apartment building. The scene then cuts to Judy waking up in her room wearing matching white shirt and pants pjs. Sitting up on the left side of her bed, she stretched her arms and yawned. "Such a good night's sleep." Walking out of her bedroom rubbing her right eye, she found Nick already awake making pancakes. "Well what do you know." Nick turned to look at Judy. "You actually did remember your pjs."
Nick smugly grinned. "Told you I would Carrots."
"I'm going to go ahead and take a shower and get changed. They'll be done by then right?"
Nick flipped a single pancake in the air. "Guaranteed," he said with a smile.
The scene cuts to a plate of three pancakes covered in syrup and topped with butter being placed in from of Judy at the table. "Ooo-hoo-hoo these are going to taste great."
"So," asked Nick as he placed his own plate down at his seat, "How'd you sleep last night?"
"Like a log." Judy took a bite of her food.
"I'm sure you did." He started to cut up his pancakes. "But still, you have to admit it."
"Admit what?" Judy said with a half full mouth of food.
"That you miss those two pain in the butt oryx brothers."
Judy swallowed her food. "Oh-ho-ho no. No I do NOT!" Nick playfully smiled at her. "I'm being serious,"she said while trying not to laugh, "I was able to tolerate their loudness for like the first week-and-a-half, but then it just started to drive me crazy!"
Nick held up his hands. "Okay Carrots, I'll take your word for it." They both shared a friendly laugh together.
Just then, the intercom next the their door buzzed. "Hello," said a feminine voice through the speaker, "I have a delivery for Nicolas Wilde?" Nick walked over to the intercom and pressed the button.
"This is Nick Wilde."
"Oh good. Listen, my name's Felicity from Felidae Express, I have an envelope marked 'Most Urgent' with me addressed to you, but I'm in a really big hurry with more of these to deliver. Could I trouble you to come and get it so I don't have to come all the way up please?"
Nick looked at Judy as they both expressed looks of confusion. Nick released his thumb off the button. "Multiple 'Most Urgent' deliveries?"
Judy left her seat and walked over to Nick. "I'll go get it. I'm already dressed and she said she's in a hurry."
"Sounds like a plan." Nick pressed back down on the button. "My roommate will be down to get it, thank you."
The scene cuts to the doors of the apartment elevator opening as Judy exits it. She quickly made her way to the front door. Heading outside she saw a young hyena standing next to a FelEx truck. "Hi!" The hyena looked to Judy.
"Oh my," she said almost dropping the envelope in her hand, "You're Judy Hopps!"
Judy extended her hand out to her. "And you must be Felicity."
Felicity excitedly shook Judy's hand. "Oh where are my manners? The name's Felicity Hyenandez. It's a real pleasure to meet you miss Hopps!" She released her grip.
"Pleasure's all mine. I believe you have a delivery for my friend Nick?"
"Wait," said Felicity mildly surprised, "Nick Wilde's your roommate?"
"Well...yeah," said Judy sarcastically polite, "He IS my best friend and partner. Plus splitting rent two ways isn't bad. Also, how else would I've known your name was Felicity?"
She slapped her forehead. "Oh I'm such an idiot! All of that makes absolute perfect sense!" She laughed softly but embarrassingly. "Guess meeting the hero cop of Zootopia made me loose my train of thought. Strange, our system says you're residing at the Grand Pangolin Arms."
She handed Judy the envelope. "Oh right," said Judy embarrassingly, "Me and Nick only moved into this apartment a week ago. They said there was a problem with their booking system. Turns out that I, a second resident in the same room, won't be put into their system till it's fixed."
"Well that explains it," said Felicity, "Well it was nice meeting you Miss Hopps."
"Likewise," said Judy, "By the way, didn't you say you had to deliver more urgent messages?"
"Oh my God!" She frantically jumped into her delivery and started to slowly pull out of the parking space. "Take care Miss Hopps!"
"You too Felicity!" She then carefully drove off into empty traffic to make her next delivery.
Back in their apartment, Judy sat down at the table next to Nick as they briefly examined it. "A most urgent delivery made this early in the morning." Nick rubbed the back of his head.
"I hope it's nothing too serious." Judy started to carefully open it.
Nick grinned. Maybe it's a worldwide shortage of carrots announcement?" Judy gently punched him in his side as she smiled back.
"One of these days you're going to make me hit you so hard that it'll hurt."
Nick playfully chuckled. "That'll be the day that I embarrass both of us at the same time." Judy kept her smile as she rolled her eyes and finished opening the envelope.
"Okay," she said taking out the message inside, "Let's see what we got here." Nick leaned in to see. "It says it's an invitational message."
"Okay then," said Nick, "An invite to what exactly?"
"Let's find out." Judy unfolded the message and began to read it out loud. "'To all officers and other employees of the Zootopia Police Department: you are all required to attend a spontaneous Family Day at your place of work starting today at noon. The family of each employee has already received a similar message yesterday and only a single member of said family were asked to attend and are most likely already there and waiting. It is strongly advised that each and every employee of the ZPD who receives this message come immediately. Police uniforms are not required. Sincerely, Mayor Leodore Lionheart.'
Both of them looked at each other confusingly dumbfounded and then at the clock in the living room which said "11:34".
"Well," said Judy, "It takes us fifteen minutes to get to the ZPD from here. We better hurry up get showered up if we want to make it there in time."
"Way ahead of yah Carrots. I got a shower this morning and threw on this second pair of pjs to
stay clean. I'll go get the van keys from a Finnick and wait outside for you."
"Nice job Nick," Judy hopped down from her seat, "Don't let these clever plans and ideas go to your head Nick. Bogo hasn't decided to promote you to detective just yet."
"Oh he will," said Nick as he grinned and cracked his fingers outward, "You'll see."
The scene cuts to outside the apartment building's front door with Judy in her police uniform heading out through said door. She looked around to see that Finnick's van was nowhere to be seen and couldn't find Nick either. "Did he...did he leave without me?"
"Ouch." She turned to her right to see Nick wheeling a light blue moped from around the alley of the building. "Don't you trust me Carrots? I thought we were partners and best friends here?"
"Nick," Judy exclaimed, "Where's the van?"
"Oh right," he said as he set the moped's kickstand, "That. Well, I gave him a call when he wouldn't answer at the door, and it turns out that Finnick got a call way earlier than when we got up. Seems a place in Sahara Square is about to go up for sale so he jumped right on it. So..." He let out a moldy annoyed sigh.
Judy frustratingly grunted. "I hate taking this thing. Especially when we're in uniform. It makes us look silly. Can't we just take a cab?"
"Sure," said Nick looking at his wristwatch, "If you want to be even later than this conversation has already made us."
Judy rubbed her temples with her index fingers. "Fine," she said grumpily. She and Nick climbed up onto the moped. Judy wrapped her arms around Nick's waist. "We really need to get our cruiser out of the shop soon."
"Well," said Nick as he started up the moped, "You can blame that on Bradley Xander for throwing a fit and tearing up the seats in the process." Once an opening in traffic presented itself, Nick made his move and they were soon on their way to the ZPD.
Nick smugly grinned. "Told you I would Carrots."
"I'm going to go ahead and take a shower and get changed. They'll be done by then right?"
