Well... You can texture it, but it's not a very in-depth method. What you can't do is animate in it; only make the models for animating.
But, you can export a model to a huge amount of other formats that allows you to texture it properly and rig it and stuff, including Blender, a much more in-depth 3D program. But don't start with Blender, it's incredibly unintuitive D:
I'd recommend giving Wings3D a try anyways, it's pretty intuitive and simple, so probably a good place to start.
