Something I find rather difficult when making a character is to give them believable personalities. Granted I don't "have" to, probably. But I'd like to make them more in-depth. It's generally the reason I don't like to draw any kind of pinups and such, because I've seen artists draw many characters…but that's about it. And depending on the artist, it's rare that they bother to draw the character again, let alone give the character any depth. Though in retrospect, I wish I did draw pinups anyway, not only for the sake of actually drawing something, but to get better at drawing anatomy. Welp, shoulda, coulda, woulda. :\
Anyway, it's par the course for organic characters. But then there's Rita, who's artificial. Logically her ego would be created by someone else's, not by hers, which I did not like because it didn't feel like it's her own. It feels like it's not her own personality, but someone else's. But I quickly had the idea of how to resolve this. Treating her former, robotic personality as a bug (since her creator isn't perfect) it was a good cataclysm of creating her ego. So, pretty much like anyone's individualism, her personality was (somewhat) randomized. Not only did I feel this was a good way to make a personality what wasn't in anyone's control, not even Rita's to a degree, it was made permanently, so it forced her to stick with what she had, like it or not.
It's difficult trying to make a proper "profile picture," for lack of a better word. When I was making one for Lily, I wanted to show off renderings of her, while also having information accompanying her. But looking back, it's…not particularly graceful. So I'm gonna try something different, and something I probably "should've" done, and have the bio in the description.
Incidentally, I was going to make her origins rather minimal, but for funsies I decided to go a little more in-depth. Probably more then necessary for a few renders, but eh.
Bio:
In an era where humanity has entered the age of robotics, one young, yet prestigious, robotics-scientist, Dr. Abano, created his own first robot. It was a simple android built as a personal project to act as a butler of sorts, but to Dr. Abano it was perfect. It also had the ability to "think" and can learn.
However, since humans are prone to error, thus the programming itself had error, the android had developed a "bug": it had curiosity. And something that oddly interested it was individualism. The android was intrigued by the human psyche, and wondered: what would it be like to "think human"? to have an ego? to have desires? to have dislikes? to have flaws? to have intimacy?
So studying the human psyche, such as the id, ego, and super-ego, it developed a semi-random algorithm of likes and dislikes, what it could do, what it can't do, etc. In other words, the android developed its own personality. And it made sure the psyche was "read only" so it could force itself to stick with what it had (for better or worse).
After downloading the results, and undergoing a mental-metamorphosis, the android found itself - or I should say herself, reborn. She now had a human-like personality. and with the personality came an identity: Rita. The name has a nice ring to it.
Using Abano's lab, she created a brand new body for herself, clothing, and effects.
Dr. Abano, however, was infuriated that Rita would do such a thing to herself, behind his back no less.
His justification was that he created a machine to suit him, not to follow its own desires. He disliked Rita for her taking upon herself to become human-like, and allowed herself to be "imperfect."
Rita, for her sake, didn't give a damn. She found Dr. Abano to be a dick, and wanted nothing to do with him. After sassing at him that she was "perfectly-imperfect," she gave him a finger (literally, she gave him one of the fingers from her old body. Guess which one) and left him.
She traveled to a city, a rare metropolis where robots are given right and equality. It wasn't perfect politics, but it was good enough for Rita. She managed to land a job at the local robotics lab, where she used her own skills of robotics and machinery to craft parts for machines and robots.
Rita has no regards nor regrets for her leaving Dr. Abano, though last she heard he got over Rita leaving her surprisingly quickly (he justified that it was better effort to let trash walk itself out the door, then to take the effort of throwing the trash out yourself), and he build a brand new robot. But, learning his lesson with Rita, he made sure that this robot was more "static" in its thinking, and couldn't learn, and thus can't create it's own personality.
Rita shrugged off the news, and felt that the new robot suited Abano.
Render Information:
Top-Left: Rita at her work station. As mentioned before, she works at a robotics lab, where she helps to create machine/robotic parts. Though, in her off hours, she likes to create stuff for herself. But this itself creates a trade-off.
Top-Right: Rita leaping over a small wall, most likely running about around in the city. as much as Rita likes to be at the lab, she enjoys getting out once and awhile. She certainly manages to get a glare or two by any visiting non-locals.
Incidentally, Rita also has the ability to change the "neon" portion on her body and effects to a variety of colors to whatever feels like. This isn't a "mood ring" effect however, she's not unintentionally giving any signals, and she's doing it consciously.
Bottom-Left: While not a social-nut, Rita does take interest talking with people. She's taking some time to converse with someone (you). Not sure what she's talking about, but it's most likely some casual talk.
Bottom-Right: Rita chilling out in the evening, listening to tunes while begrudgingly looking over boring after-hours maintenance tasks. This is the trade-off for crafting her own stuff, since she IS using company resources. So she pulls double-duty and makes sure the machines and electronics are in good conditions. Fortunately, it's not every night, but still.
