Well, after dropping off the map for a while, I’m back with a completed dragon tail commission. This one is in anodized aluminum with blue, purple and “frost” colors. It’s a full-length tail, measuring in at 34 inches from tip to the top of the belt, and weighing in at 3 pounds 6 ounces. It also has a full line of spikes down the spine.
More photos over on my Tumblr!
The frost scales have a lustrous, buffed sort of finish, rather than a typical bare-metal finish. Over on my Tumblr you can see it next to a patch of standard aluminum. It doesn’t reflect light as intensely as the base metal, so it doesn’t get the very bright highlights from point light sources. Instead it scatters light more broadly, so it ends up looking more consistently bright in a variety of lighting conditions.
In case people are wondering why I vanished, I was moving apartments, then had a death in the family. I’m getting back into the swing of life again now. And also, I’ve finally nearly worked out a sustainable solution to the problem of laser-cutter access. More updates on that to follow in the next few days, once I finish my other outstanding tail commission.
