This is it: my third EVER public appearance in fursuit. It was only six days after Celebrate Downtown Okemos but by now I had learned how to at least keep my head on straight. Though, I was about to learn a hard lesson on heat management.... If you wade 2000 people into a crowd, always remember that you must wade 2000 people out.
It was a sensational experience, drawing kids young and old alike, and included everything from hugging to tail pulling to television cameras, and included even some storytelling. After this day, and going home absolutely exhausted (with leg cramps and dehydration), but totally content with living in the moment, I knew that there was no going back; I was a fursuiter.

Here's the rest of the story, filmed at that very event by our community television station and aired periodically throughout the summer on their community connections TV program.

It's probably not general knowledge that at the time I started fursuiting, I had never seen another fursuiter in real life. I had met only one other furry:
zoobear
He assisted me with the creation of the duct tape dummy. I was so unknowledgeable that I bought some brand new super sharp scissors, and they were so sharp and pointy, that the only way to cut me out of the DTD left an 18-inch long line of short, shallow bleeding cuts along both my right and left outer calves on my legs. I just gritted my teeth and let him cut... and hoped that my wife wouldn't notice the scabs. Grubbs was horrified to see the damage, but they stopped bleeding soon enough!

I love pictures that have detailed stories like this. It's one of the reasons I love reading
