Egon is a really important character to me. His personality and character dynamics are so well thought out when he was designed. He's a laid back character. He's not bossy or brash or arrogant. Granted he can come off as that but he does that because he wants to see the job or task at hand done effectively, but he's respectful when the others put their own thoughts into the situation, no matter how off the wall the suggestions sound. Yes he can be sometimes sarcastic, but it's do to Peter or sometimes the others being sarcastic or funny to him. He's not a quiet, antisocial withdrawn character. He has his quiet moments, and he goes off to a place that is comfortable for him. He's bashful and shy when it comes to him dealing with his feelings for Janine, even though he knows that he loves her. He enjoys her company and makes sure she's ok if she gets accidentally drawn into the situation. Egon is the type of guys that is there when you need him to be there.

Naturally, I wanted Silver learning how to be an effective Ghostbuster from Egon (Peter was too busy off doing what Peter does best and he would probably not teach her...'properly', as Egon would say). Egon, is fascinated that he is teaching an oddly colored talking dog how to use the Proton Pack, but doesn't question it cause he's seen weirder things at his job. And he was more than willing to let her borrow one of his other uniforms.
