As explained by Ghargash earlier on in this chapter, the fresh bond between a Summoner (or Anchor) and a Spirit has adverse affects on both parties.
In the case of the emotionally distraught and terrified child that bonded with Aquantis, it twisted the spirit itself into a more malevolent form of itself, closer to the Summoner's own emotional state.
With the more emotionally stable and mature adult Ghargash that bonded with Yvolith, the Ice Giant, it resulted in his own mood becoming even "icier" than usual for a week or so. (Well, as stable as Ghargash ever is, anyway)
As for the normally very level-headed and calm Jerboa with no experience nor preparation for the effects of bonding with a burn-happy Fire spirit, well... see for yourself.
