Another profile, this time for my unaffiliated T'vaoan Nek Dal, a wimp (by Kig standards) who just wants to proove himself to his Mistress so he can see his children again - and of course make sweet money on the side.
Nek Dal:
Faction & Division: Kig-Yar Mercenary/Pirates
Rank: Engine technician / Ship Master / Captain (Took on the human title rather than Ship Master.)
Name: Nek Dal, Chur'R-Nek Dal, Ned Feathers (He interacts with humans using this moniker.)
Race: Kig-Yar, Skirmisher sub species
Age: 28 equivalent human years
Height: 6''5'
Weight: 200 lbs
Appearance:
His skin is dull grey like the majority of his race and he keeps his feathers mostly grey except for their tips which he often dyes green. His eyes are bright amber and really stand out against his grey skin. His build isn't particularly muscular but he is pretty nimble due to all the clambering he has to do to get around his ship's systems. The standard armor of the Skirmishers doesn't see much use from him as its not that comfortable to sit in - though he does own a set of standard armor it's often just kept in his quarters. Instead of armor he wears loose fitting and comfortable pants and shirts, often a jacket as well with a UNSC captain star on the shoulder. He is quick to point out that he found the star in a crate and he didn't kill a captain to get it, but seeing it before he could explain may cause problems. His pants and shirt and often dull grey like his skin but the jacket is a brown leather one with a furry neck and collar. He has worn the jacket in very well for his shape and finds it extremely comfortable - though the sleeves are often rolled up to let his forearm feathers stick out so he doesn't get too hot. Though on his right forearm he often wears a human TacPad for easier communications, status of his ship, and to help interface with his ship. Around his neck he also carries the only photo he has of his two children in a dull steel locket held around his neck with a strong leather strap - a chain would painfully snag on his feathers.
For weapons when he is on his ship he just carry's a humans M6C magnum on his left thigh, as he's left handed, loaded and with two additional mags on his belt. Strapped to the magnum holster is a human combat knife as well for mostly utility but its still kept sharp. He also carries a Kig-Yar Boarding pistol on a shoulder holster under his jacket, loaded but with no additional shells on him, just in case. For trade meetings he carries the same weapons, but if the meeting is taking place somewhere hostile he'll put on his armor and arrive at the meeting with a Kig-Yar Dart rifle and his Magnum. The magnum (his main weapon) is decorated with two of his own feathers on the grip and the human word 'Hello' is etched into its slide in cursive.
The final notable part of his appearance is his Flight Helmet. It would normally only be used by fighter pilots but he has had his modified to plug into the main control console for when they are in a truly dangerous situation. It looks similar to a Skirmisher commando helmet but has cords on either side of it that connect to the console, more metal around the back to keep his feathers down, and several straps to hold it securely to his head so it doesn't fall off. The metal of the helmet is a dull silver metal color and the eye pieces shift from light yellow to red depending on the condition of the ship. What Nek sees when the helmet is on is the space in front of his ship due to cameras on the nose between the Streak middle pods. To the right of the main view if all the weapons and their remaining ammunition count. To the left is the engines, their speed, and condition of them. At the bottom any threats behind them would be displayed and at the top would be a simply compass so he would know the direction he would eventually need to go. He can fly without the Helmet on, but due to how he trained he is way better at it with the helmet.
Strengths:
- Can speak English remarkably well for an alien, and although his vocal sac makes his voice a bit raspy once you are used to hearing it he is very easy to understand. In addition to this he has a good understanding of popular human culture which, though slightly outdated, makes it easier for him to interact with humans if they didn't try to pluck his feathers on their first meeting.
- Has a very good understanding of his ships very powerful (for their size) engines because he helped install them and also helps to maintain them. Throughout the majority of his life he was a maintenance personnel, and its only recently he was promoted to captain, so he knows what makes them tick and how to kick them back into gear if they hiccup.
- Has good memory and knowledge of the majority of the ships in use by the UNSC and the Covenant from the records his fleet 'acquires' from both sides. As such he knows where the weapons are on vessels and so knows where to fly past them if he has too to minimize risk of his vessel being hit.
- Can fly his speedster with a very deft and skillful hand even when going at full tilt, much to the chagrin of his crew that hate his evasive maneuvers.
Weaknesses:
- Is not actually that good of a captain; he is new to it, has a tendency to panic in combat, and isn't good at issuing orders more sophisticated then 'Run'. He is also not good at delegating work loads and jobs for his crew - one of the reasons why he has bridge officers to do it for him - but if something were to happen to them he would rush and give poor orders.
- Has rather poor combat skills since he was trained to maintain and fly the vessels not protect it. Luckily he has crew that do that for him, but if a determined group of borders got on board he would be in trouble.
- His knowledge and love for human culture often gets in the way of his better judgment and he often forgets that he's a alien and 98% of humans want to rip him apart.
- Has developed a bad cough from sampling some of the Sweet Williams Cigars he keeps for trade meetings. It strikes seemingly at random and he hasn't been able to cure it yet. He suspects its something with smoke particles in his vocal sac, but has no way of fixing it. He now saves those items for trading and not for enjoyment.
Biography:
-Early life - Born on a supply ship from the ships female weapons officer and a security male. The ship was a resupply and scout ship, and rarely did any kind of combat. Only open space was maintenance so was put on that in the Engine room. He quickly learnt the engines on the first ship like the back of his hand so didn't have to spend that much time working on them. Spent his time instead reading Human books and watching their television shows - taught himself English over a period of nine years, from age 13 to 22.
-We've been raided! - Shortly after turning 22 his vessel was raided by Kig-yar pirates, members of the Spice Sisterhood. Most of the crew was killed, his father included, but himself, his mother, and 1/5 of the rest of the crew were captured. They we're put into mostly the same jobs they had before but now as slave labor. It was here that Nek learnt more about how to make engines go beyond their normal performance figures and how to keep them there. The new vessel was a raiding ship, and Nek often had to be part of the raid force as a meat shield, but he survived from pure luck and gained some basic combat skill for it. Unlike many of the other crew Nek was almost never beaten or injured by the Sisterhood, just worked very hard. As he was submissive and just went along with what they wanted him to do without being forced too. Since he did good work he also didn't have to 'test' any of their poisons for them. They didn't like him and he didn't like them, but they had an understanding in a sense. The occasional smack or wack but the T'vaoan would just nod and go back to work, like a good little bird who feared for his life.
-Raided again!? - In the middle of his 25th year the vessel was raided and he was 'rescued' by the new crew. The Skirmisher Ship Mistress took a liking to him and his skill and put him on her ship while his mother was put on a different ship. He did very well at his new station of making sure the supply ship this time was as good as it could be. While continuing to study human culture he also got into the logistics of trading, and soon learnt the going rate for items that would likely be traded, and about the more exotic items. He also began to study how to fly as like early in his life there really wasn't much for him to do with the engines.
-Promoted! - After turning 27 the ship mistress yanked him aside one day and got herself two kids off him. Nek was pleased that he finally had kids of his own but Zah took them with her when she moved up to a larger vessel in the pirate fleet - were it not for that he would have been forced to leave the ship he had helped to upgrade. He was able to get a picture sent to him by a friend in her new crew but hasn't seen them since she left. He was left in charge by her after she left and told the crew that if he didn't prove capable that they could remove him and elect a new captain. The crew were needless to say not thrilled with him as captain and a few still don't like it. But his skill in flight rapidly improved and he soon earned the respect of the crew for flying them out of deadly situations, earning his life as well as his station. Now as captain he has started to stockpile rare goods that he had read about humans loving; Sweet Williams, movies, wine, and music - though in no great quantity compared to food and weapons which he normally trades in.
*He normally trades and deals with non-UNSC humans, and so isn't 100% aware of how dangerous trading with the UNSC will be. But he may have no choice soon as more and more of his human contacts are wiped out by the UNSC or the Covenant. He has enough knowledge of the human economy to trade his items either for other items or just credits, which he uses with his non-UNSC contacts to buy supplies and information.
**Because the majority of his life was taken up by learning how to repair, upgrade, and cultural studies Nek saw Piracy mostly when it happened to him. The fear and death he has been through molded him into what most Kig-Yar would call a pacifist, fool, weaking, or wimp. This is one of the main reasons why he has turned to trading whenever he can rather than ship to ship combat and raiding - it also helps that he wants to protect the engines he has put a good portion of his life into.
'Family':
Mistress: Ship Mistress Chur'R-Zahl Tes - Left Nek with command of the Speed Streak and took command of a new vessel the fleet acquired.
Son: Yul Dal.
Daughter: Posn Tes.
*Both his children are a year old now, but he has not seen them in eleven months.

Awaking with a bump and a squawk as he was jolted out of his bed Nek quickly got up on his knees holding his snout. Looking up as the light on the wall started to blink and the raid siren started he quickly grabbed his shirt off the floor and pulled it on over his mane as he ran out the door. Turning to head toward the bridge he ran right into Tel who seemed to be running to get him.
"Tel! What's going on, whose attacking us?!" Nek demanded as he held his snout again, a bit of blood dripping out of nose as Tel grabbing his offered arm and pulled him to his feet.
"Covenant, we must have tripped one of their long range sensors. We have a SDV Corvette closing in fast and its fighters are trying to disable our engines!" Nodding Nek and his first mate finally entered the bridge as Nek glanced around at the consoles.
"Uhh...how far is the corvette from us? How many fighters?" Nek quickly stammered out as he slid into his seat and grabbed his helmet, wiping some of the blood off his snout before sliding the helmet over his face. His crew quickly replied with a number that was small and a number that was big, both of which didn't sit well with Nek as he closed his eyes for the bright flash of the HUD initializing. Opening them again he sucked in a breath to see that the engines had already taken some hits and were down to 82% already. Roving his eyes around he could see that the red hashes at the bottom of the HUD showed that the Seraphs we're having a party as they slowly putted around behind taking potshots at his pride and joy!
Noq was quick to pull Tel back to her station as she growled at Nek a bit as he just sat there, hoping that he would get his feathers in gear sharpish unless they wanted to be without power. Just as she was about to strap herself back into her seat though the ship suddenly lurched forward as Nek jammed the thrust forward and engaged their power house. She managed to catch herself as the speed settled out and quickly strapped herself in as Nek called to her and the rest of the crew.
"Location! Need one...don't care if its humans. Loose the tail people, use the...uhh...mines!" Taking in deep breaths Nek closed his eyes and gripped his controls tightly as his crew called out aye and went to work. Opening them he watched the right side of his hud as ten of the spasm mines we're shot out behind them at the six seraphs that we're following. He listened as Lop called out that three had been hit and the last three we're slowing down to avoid them. Yes shouted that she was searching for a suitable spot for a slipsace jump and to hold off till then. Grinning under his helmet Nek quickly dove the ship down and to the left toward a asteroid.
By now he was in his little flight zone so Tel called out to Lop to be ready to launch three more mines once they were clear of the first asteroid to a aye as Nek eased the vessel into a wide turn to take the apex of his little asteroid turn. Glancing down at the left side he growled as he noticed the engine temp heating up fast...they must had been damaged. Lop slowly hovered his claws over one of the large buttons on his console as the three remaining seraphs tried to speed up to chase them around the asteroid.
"Fire!" Tel called out, the mines being released as they quickly snapped onto the asteroid's surface they just edged past. "Wait for it....wait...boom!" He called out again as Lop activated the remote fuse and the result explosion and rock shower either disabled or blew up their remaining tail.
"SDV charging plasma batteries Nek, almost out of range." Quickly ayeing in reply to Tel he let his ship ease into a straight path but had to slow as the engine heat was nearing critical levels, they had been damaged badly...he would have to vent heat soon or they may meltdown. Nodding a little he called for that location again as he shut the engines down to vent while on the edges of the Corvettes range.
"Saving them for the jump. I need that location Yes...NOW!" He squawked out as he could hear her typing a few quick commands into her console as Tel announced that the Corvette had fired.
"Got one, old contact base, its in!" She quickly called over the beeping of the danger alarms and Nek nodded and hovered his hand over the jump command, he had to wait as long as possible for the engines to cool so they could make it as far as they could.
"Tel...give me some more distance." "Aye sir, firing back Streaks." Nodding as the ship shook a little from both missile being fired simultaneously they soon met the plasma torpedo - one of them meeting it head on as the other flew harmless past, aiming to giving the Corvette something to thing about as the plasma torpedo seemed unaffected by the impact, but was going ever so slightly slower.
The impact klaxon started to whine as the torpedo got over closer as Nek nodding and slightly slammed that jump button down. The familiar blue filling his vision as they entered slipspace.
"Plasma torpedo was left behind." Breathing a sign of relief he carefully watched the engines as their heat started to skyrocket. "We need to stop soon, engines have been damaged. We can't make it to the old contact space, warn of the crew and tell them to get ready to repair." Ayes greeted him as he waited about another minute before dropping his ship out of the slipspace into standard space. He quickly shut down their engines and started to vent the excess heat into space, making a huge radar spot if anyone happened to be around, but it was better than them melting down as Nek started to unstrap his helmet.
"Repair and vent time people; Yes, where are we?"
"UNSC controlled and patrolled space."

Ship:
Basic Information
Name: Speed Streak.
Registration: -
Slogan: Run for the Money.
Class: Kig-Yar Supply Runner
MOS: Supplying Covenant separatists and humans.
Commanding Officer: Nek Dal
Ship AI: None
Detailed Information
Crew Patch/Badge: While Kig-Yar pirates often don't have one, Nek's love for human culture made him make one. Its a yellow diamond inside a black shield patch, Speed is above the diamond and Streak below it. Inside the diamond are two crates, a human and a Covenant one, both propelled by rockets heading off the patch. Because the ship doesn't have a uniform however only he and his bridge crew have it on their clothing and armor - but Nek still loves it.
Physical Description:
Only about 90% the size as a Charon class Light Frigate the Kig-yar ship isn't exactly a big imposing ship of war. Rather than armor and weapons though the Speed Streak, true to its name, is fast - very fast. The small ship easily able to outrun most ships and has a good chance of being able to avoid plasma torpedoes just by speed. Nek prefers to run away from his fellow pirates, disgruntled humans, and Covenant chasers rather than try to fight, often only firing the weapons for cover as they flee. The ship itself isn't that pretty, as the Kig-yar build for function over form. The majority of the ship is similar in shape to a humans Halcyon class Cruiser, being long and cylindrical but is more uniform in its shape - basically large floating curved rectangle.
However, if one were familiar with ships like this they would see that the back of the vessel looks very different, with larger engine exhaust ports, as well as nearly 1.5x as many of them, jammed into the back of the vessel. Its exhaust is also bright yellow rather than the normal blue of Covenant ships.
The ship is able to fly into and leave a planets atmosphere fairly easily and its loading bays are located on the underside of the vessel. The front 1/6th of the bottom floor of the ship can lower to allow a large amount of cargo to be loaded and unloaded rapidly. The first deck of the ship, going up, is reserved for cargo as is the second and third deck, several elevators able to move cargo from one to the other. Also on the top cargo deck is the airlocks and boarding clamp to allow the vessel to dock with other ships and stations. The airlocks are numerous and wide to allow easy transfer of goods. The floor above these holds the hanger for the few ships they can stuff inside. The last three decks hold; the crew sleeping quarters and armory, mess hall, and bridge. Movement through the ships is done mostly with elevators or stairs, the latter being more numerous. Most of the floors also have access near the back of the vessel into the engine room(s) that span most of the vessel's back.
Biography:
-Early years - Started out in life as a slow tug ship used to transfer supplies in the Kig-Yar home system from asteroid to asteroid and planet to asteroid. Preformed well but it ship wasn't anything spectacular. It was won from the cargo company in a game of cards followed by a fist fight. The male Kig-yar who won started to turn it into a Slipspace capable transport.
-Refitted and first contact - Now capable of higher speed and armed up slightly the Kig-Yar took his new toy to the nearest asteroid, grabbed any young bored Kig-Yar, and took to the stars. His exuberance was short lived though as he didn't pack enough supplies for the amount of passengers he picked up. He was facing a mutiny before he made a bold move and stopped off at a human space station. Luckily for him the station was full of Innies and they traded him food in exchange for covenant weaponry.
-New management - After they had left with supplies they were attacked by two smaller Kig-Yar ships, and since they had to trade the majority of their weapons away they had no chance and were all either captured or killed. The new Skirmisher Ship Mistress took the vessel back to her pirate fleet and got it fully armored up and many different weapons stuffed into its frame.
-Successful raider - Now a formidable ship (at least to other ships of its size) it began to raid in earnest, and successfully took down six other ships with a year without major damage. The fifth of these contained Nek, its later to be captain.
-Upgrade to now - With Nek on board the vessel was upgraded again with more efficient and faster engines as well as a rudimentary stealth system they received from ship #6. The Pirate fleet had little need for more ships though so the little supply ship was given a new mission and was mostly left to its own devices.
Loadout:

Organization
Affiliation: Kig-Yar Mercenary Fleet.
Battlegroup: Outer UNSC zone Mercenary fleet.
Crew:
Main bridge Crew:
-First Mate - Tel Yag, Skirmisher female. Speed Streaks old first mate who was left behind after Zah moved to a new ship. Tel initially didn't want Nek to lead, as she though he would just get them killed, but after witnessing his skill in piloting she's started to help out more.
-Second Mate - Noq, Kig-Yar female. One of the veteran crew mates that has been on the ship since it first left Eayn. She is old for a bridge crew member but has a lot of respect from the crew, Nek included, and people listen to her when she starts to delegate orders and jobs.
-Gunnery Master - Lop, Kig-Yar male. Artist and main gunner he often has control of their Mass Driver Cannon and uses his steady drawing hands to land the shots when they need to happen, his console has fewer buttons than it would normally have but he's replaced most of them with simple big red fire buttons for each set of weapons once he's lined up the crosshairs.
-Navigator - Yes Hel. Skirmisher female. The smallest Skirmisher in the crew Yes has a very quiet voice but an amazing memory. She is in change of keeping Nek informed of enemy ships positions when he's trying to fly and keep track of their supply routes and contacts at each location.
-Engine Master - Gus, Kig-yar female. Nek often fills this role if something serious happens or supervises it regardless but he is teaching Gus how to take care of their powerful engines so he can try to focus more on being a captain.
Crew: The crew is around 35% male 65% female.
10x Bridge officers that rotate with the shifts.
70x Crew and supply officers that oversee the ships systems, run maintenance, repairs, and transfer supplies.
40x Dedicated security and fighters if the ship is attacked and boarders are expected.

10x Bridge officers that rotate with the shifts.
70x Crew and supply officers that oversee the ships systems, run maintenance, repairs, and transfer supplies.
