Whipped this up today while waiting for people to turn up for an RP I was directing.
Lavochkin LA-11 "Fang", a post war development of the La-7/La-9, converted into a high altitude escort fighter. The russian equivalent to the P-51 in the most general sense, it came way too late and was born in the beginning of the jet age, making it redundant after only a short while.
Fought in Korea, and turned out to be a fearsome enemy, being very maneuverable in the horizontal and vertical, and being armed with 4 30mm cannon, as opposed to the typically 6 .50cals of US Fighters.

It´s difficult to find combat reports from the Korean war that are from Mustang Pilots, and not Sabres, and involve Dogfights with chinese or korean prop fighters.
From the specs alone, though, because the Mustang was originally built as a high altitude escort fighter, it would probably not fare very well at altitudes below 6000 meters, while it would´ve eaten the LA alive above 7000. Below 3000, the russian fighter would´ve done the same the other way round.
The cannon are of course impressive, but their trajectory is less favourable than that of the .50 cal, so they´re much more difficult to score hits with. You also have -way- less ammo. A single hit is enough to do in a B-29, though. So a Mustang would´ve turned into a bundle of scrap metal.
But as always, it comes down to crew training, and in training the USAF pilots were clearly superior once Stalin had cycled his elite squadrons out of the war and replaced them with green squadrons. Most Korean and Chinese pilots also had only recently been drafted (or forced to volounteer, yay communism) and trained rather hastily. So from that point of view, an LA-9 or 11 would´ve been a nice piece of kit, but could actually do much less than it was capable to because the pilots weren´t able to push the limits of their envelopes.
Sry about lecture, but I enjoy talking about this kinda subject 8D
