For the latest "Throwback Thursday" of October, 2016, I have another digital 'photo-op' -recently taken by my brother Glenn with the camera feature of his smartphone...
When I saw the following snapshot, I was reminded of the time (some years ago) when I had to bring one of my past automobiles (a Ford Escort) to Tire Kingdom, to have all four tires rotated, while buying two replacement wheels in the process. It took about a hour or two, so I hung around the area. While sitting in the waiting room, something outside the front window caught my attention. Hopping across the parking lot was a large male marsh hare - one of the few times (since moving down to south Florida) I saw a rabbit of any kind in the wild. (The last time I saw any rabbits were a few of them on the lawn of a home in North Lauderdale - a hop, skip, and a jump away from Margate - two years ago.)
Now, 'fast forward' to the present...
A few weeks ago, Glenn had to take his car (a Mini-Cooper) in for repairs, at a shop located in Coral Springs, Florida (just west of Margate). While he was waiting for his own vehicle to be fixed, my brother took a walk around the outside of the garage... when it was his turn to spot an animal wandering around the premises.
This time, it was a rooster who was strutting around the rear area of said garage - and emitting an occasional crow (that sometimes could be heard over the din of the auto mechanics' work). Glenn never did inquire about where the bird came from. (It could've came from a neighboring home, whose owner raised chickens; or it could've been a stray wild fowl.) But he did take advantage of the opportunity to take the rooster's picture with his smartphone.
Oddly enough, the first time I saw chickens and roosters in south Florida were (literally) in the streets of Key West, where the wayward fowl had the run of the city (and some of them were even smart enough to use the crosswalks at intersections, when they had the right-of-way to cross the streets)!
Some of you let me know (through your 'Comments') about similar encounters you've had with fauna, at the most unlikely of places...
I hope to post some more animal-related pix - for "Throwback Thursdays" - in the weeks ahead...
