I like this plane because it is small and nimble: about half the size of the P-47, a third smaller than the Mustang. It accelerates quickly, it climbs nicely, and it packs a fearsome punch.
The construction is simple, and more sturdy than the earlier, wooden LA-5/La-7s of World War 2.
Pity, only one of these is still flying, which is a La-9 operated in New Zealand.
