This story is not by me, but was told to me, by my uncle decades ago. I had to do some digging
though books and the net to get this copy. I read this at a on-line reading group and it was well
received.
The tradition of the Vision Quest is part of several Plains tribes. It a difficult ceremony one
person take when they feel they must. Be it coming out from a life crisis, or as simple as a 'coming
of age'. It is designed to give a person a direction in life when they feel they are rudderless.
It isn't easy but like birth it's a change, it's a new beginning and how you use the Hanbleceya is,
of course, up to you.
This story is especially significant for it's a Brule Sioux story, as he was.

By hook or hangnail, I'll get this right.
Thank you for yet another eye opener and thought provoking.
My apologies again for barking so loudly. And as far as boulders go, I'm kind of thick headed.
Instead of baying for knowledge and the power thereof, I bay for my own sanity and peace.
By the way, here is a link to a tale that I've only heard the edited version of:

Your more than welcome :). Yes I'm similar -- mine would be one for sanity and direction only. I would never wish to ask the spirits for power at all. After all direction will lead to good things.
Oh thank you! Excellent story. I cannot quite recall if Uncle told me that one but it's been 40 years :)

It was a pleasure really. I'm only reading these on FurryMUCK's 'Owlhaven' a writers group I'm with, and they're getting good reviews. Everyone reads SF, and Fantasy. I wanted to go back to my roots, and bring that sense of wonder and respect that my uncle gave to me, when he told me his stories, and apparently it's appreciated. I have one more I haven't posted yet but will ASAP.
