I'm currently writing a horror story for all-hallows, and I've had so much problems writing it, that I'm taking an interesting step and submitting the map of it for critique.
This is a sort of outline of the story. Showing the key features of it, how each part leads to another. It uses a native-american structure instead of the more well known European style.
So can you just take a look and see what I may have done wrong? Or done right? Or anything else? I'm working hard to get this done by around the 28th of this month so I can post it to an online forum before All-Hallows.
If your wondering what a 'Caitsceil (Caits) is, think of a Mt. Lion (North American big cat, look it up, if your not familiar, also goes by Puma, and Cougar)
Coat him in pure flat-black fur, with bright yellow eyes.
Then put in a much, much bigger brain, not quite sapient, but beyond what even apes possess. It's an uplifted Cougar that wasn't fully uplifted and escaped into the wild, to become one of the most feared predators in the lands because they're as intelligent as a 10 year old human child. Sapient, plus wild feral predator who has no quams attacking humans.
Yeah...I have a strange imagination :)

I think your imagination is just fine...
I'm not much help here as I don't outline when I write. I think the story line is tried and true. I feel bad for the Cait that she took care of her part of the bargain but also she never specified Sierra's part of the bargain until Tom was killed so...
Good luck...

Coming off a major cold so I'm still sort of out in left field, spinning around going la-la-la-la-la (giggles)
Thank you for the advice however. It appears I won't have it done before All Hallows now, I cannot get any traction on it. That shows me there is something fundamentally wrong with it, which my writing coach said may be character development. I basically don't know the characters at all; I know the caits better because they're an older antagonist in my storyworld.
This shows that I need to do some serious R&D into this subject, It's holding me back :(

As Claude and my other writing coach has said. I think it's time I sit down and worked this problem out, once and for all. I've done every other major writing segment. But I know everyone is correct. On some stories, such as my 'Appalachian Expositions' story, I put myself in the protagonists 'Claire' position and the stories come. Others? It's like I'm stuck in neutral, trying to shift gears with a clutch.
Basically I don't know the character!

That was something that, so far as I can tell, in /no book or site that I read/. It's always 'interview your characters' but that's hard to do when they're all inside of you.
I've got one crazy idea on how to do this. Make a new character, then add some random things to them, to get started on; say "They detest Kentucky baseketball" then start talking about that? let them tell me why? then go from there? Am I on to something?
It's so very hard to actually become a friend, because I don't know how I develop friendships. It seems it comes naturally, and organically. I can see though FA's notes and comments how I started with you.
I could try this with Salli and Amber, from the story that Thursday prompts started. I already went though the parts and pulled every tiny bit of information about them into a separate file. It gives me a starting point.
so am I on the right track now?

My head is swimming...
when we first met you didn't know me and yet we spoke
you didn't have to gather information on me and put me into a folder
we spoke
I don't mean this in a facetious way - it's just the way I write.
The character of the story comes to life and I can become very attached.
