Yay this was fun! Considering my thief character Seven as having a hobby in watchsmithing, I just thought of portraying him in a steampunk setting... because as anyone knows no speculative wild-west fiction setting is complete without a bandit of some kind right?
Seven is decked out in various steampunk-styled gadgets and gizmos mostly based off of clockwork, no telling what they do of course. The costume is acutally bassed off of a photograph of Billy the Kid, who appared to wear a beatup top hat and parts of a uniform leftover from the American civil war. It's all a welcome break from the typical "victorian suit" or "cowboy outfit" common in steampunk costumes, it's a combination of both really.
He's apparently robbing A.I.G... which I thought would probably make him a bit heroic given all the trouble it's caused during the recession. In any case I thought it would make a fun political joke.
I know not everyone likes steampunk, it's slowly becoming uncool due to being popular after all, I'm just trying something different as an artist heh. I reserve the right to draw gatling gun hand canons, everyone should make one at least once right? Besides, there's plenty of shinny things going on. :D

It is interesting what you say, to paraphrase "It's losing its cool-ness because it's gaining popularity." There are so many things in our culture that are summed up by that statement. However everything about that is relative as well, so you must take it with a grain of salt.
Personally, if someone likes steampunk (or ANYTHING else) they shouldn't feel that they should not enjoy it or like it at all simply because it may be becoming more popular.
In terms of time-styles, yes the turn-of-century (late 1800's) is a memorable style. But I also like the Roaring 20's kind of looks, as well as the 70's. I said 70's, NOT Disco in particular!
Anyway, nice job on this.

yeah and I agree, it's just that I was researching on here and found some other steampunk drawings, and one of the first comments on one was "I hate steampunk." It's just the kind of pettiness I want to avoid. I rather focus on art and enjoy stuff, not bother over weather something fits some elitist's standards right? :)
I'll have to try that 70's idea, and glad you liked the piece :D
