That is a very good point. By the early thirties, Italy had the fastest and most modern planes of anyone. But they went into full production and equipped their air force with planes that were obsolete by the war. The Italians did build excellent aircraft during the war, but the production and materials were not there. The CC1 and 2, the first official jets, are incredibly lovely but technological dead ends. Pretty much the same with their armored vehicles. Any tank will work in Abyssinia, but not against a modern army. When Mussolini attacked France the French beat the hell out of them.
