Traitor. Collaborator. Murderer. Butcher. Cute.
Occasionally, a kitsune will give in to desires most foul, corrupt, and primal - the direct consumption of the spirit energy of another, and the body of their victim in turn. This doesn't come without consequences - their body twists to reflect their new state, twisted, massive mouths erupting at the ends of their tails. Neither does it come without punishment - those who develop such atrocities are branded as exiles and cast out of the kitsune community, to live in the wilds.
At least, that was once the case. With the rise of humanity and other sapient species, 'mawsune' have the opportunities to live in the comforts of the towns and cities that others provide. Worse yet, to execute a mawsune would be just as bad as becoming one, in the eyes of their more moral brethren.
This means, that as time passed and times themselves changed, that the mawsune were enough in number to hold political sway. Lia, incidentally, serves as their leader - before the crowned of other lands, and to her own kin.
She might also be trying to bring about some sort of world-ending prophecy, but that's just little details.
Sorry for my melodramatic poetry earlier. I'm going through hard times and needed to cry out.
Have some art to compensate - artist unknown beyond the moniker 'Nuclear Wasabi'.
Remember Lia? She was one of my earliest characters, but I rather disliked how she turned out. This is MUCH better.
