Mercy Returns to Spawn
The Atlantic Salmon made her way up stream, her mind focused more on the instinctual need to spawn rather than the nagging feeling it felt deep in her mind. The fish certainly stood out among the other blue and silver creatures. Her scales were a porcelain white with splotches of a rich orange along her dorsal. At the back of her head there was a strange tuft of gold that made her stand out further from the rest of the Salmon Run. As she wriggled against the current, strange thoughts crossed her instinct-driven mind. Images of a blonde Swiss scientist studying vats of water filled with salmon... she was researching the effects of her Bio-Nanites on fish oil potency and trying to help the body produce Omega-3 oils naturally and- MUST SWIM FASTER... The thought was interrupted as the salmon came to a rather heavy current area. Once through, she knew the spawning grounds were near, she instinctually knew it to be true. Once back to the manageable waters, the salmon's mind slipped back to the doctor. She had just taken a strange yellow-orange pill and was beginning to cough... her throat feeling so dry. The next moments are a blur as she dives into the vat that led out into the ocean, her body writhing and shifting as limbs merged or shrunk into new appendages, slits opening in her neck causing water to filter through her mouth. New sensations, new thoughts began running through the blonde scientist's mind as she continued to shift and change, the nanites no longer recognizing her DNA as human and correcting her bio-chemistry accordingly. Soon the ex-human felt her terror melt away as new more important thoughts filled her mind... thoughts of leaving the sea, returning to the rivers, moving upstream, and joining the others spawning.
It was then that the salmon was brought back to the present, her mind alert as she began swimming along the riverbed and shifting the pebbles around until she had made a nest. She was aware of the male approaching her. She vaguely recalled studying him... wasn't he in a tank and she looking in? No, that made no sense... she swished her tail to make an indent in the nest. She felt a momentary pressure before laying her red pearl-like eggs while the male swam up to release his milt. The process was done in a matter of minutes and the female began to cover the eggs, shallowly burying them to protect them from predators. She turned and began to swim about the spawn beds, the strange thoughts from before no longer crossing her mind as her only concerns were the journey back to the Ocean.
Been playing Overwatch a little in my free time (translation, I bought a bunch of Loot Boxes so I could get all the new costumes, including Witch Mercy). As such, I'm craving to do some art focusing on TFing a surprisingly under-represented group of Vict-HEROES. So yeah, fun times ahead.
