This looks good so far! That the opacity is low is key for detail! Excellent idea for showing everything visual behind the speech box.
Will there be additions at the side(s)/top for info on things? Plan on having a primitive HUD?
Some Visual Novels go as far as to mention if you possess key items by having an inventory button you click on (like a pouch or backpack).
You don't need these things though if you manage to make your game perfect without them, but it isn't always easy.
I can't wait for this creation of yours to have a demo out!
