Introducing Ma
Madelene “Ma” Arliss (Granna)
Red Holstein Cow
Age 51
Birthday: June 18, 1840
Height 6’
Weight 175
Clothing: Typically a simple dress with an apron. Prefers comfort over fashion.
Personality: Tough. This is not a woman to be trifled with. On first glance she seems brutish and easily angered, however to those who know her she’s “Ma” a caring motherly person who WILL protect the one’s she cares about. She’s a typical farm girl, strong, loud, and oblivious to etiquette. She surprises her family quite often with sudden bursts of playfulness and childlike behavior.
She’s not that intelligent and relies on Flint and a couple of others to help her with difficult matters. However she has an uncanny ability to run her saloon extremely well.
Favorite food: Salad, She is a vegetarian after all.
Sexuality: Straight, not interested.
Hobbies: None really, likes to cook, clean and play with the kids when she gets the chance.
History: Widow of Paul “Pa” Arliss, together they started a Saloon called “The Greener Pasture” or more simply “The Pasture”. The two of them got married at a young age and together they decided to follow their dream of owning a saloon and getting away from farm life. Early on it was difficult but they managed to get started and now “The Greener Pasture” is thriving. They discovered early on that Ma, then 20, was unable to bear a child. Not long after they found Flint, about 10, dirty and starving, digging through the garbage cans looking for food. They took him in and raised him as their own, encouraging him to be educated and gentlemanly. After Pa’s death she took sole ownership of The Pasture and runs it with the help of the “Girls”. Being that she was raised on a farm doing hard work she has become extremely strong, stronger than many men. Combined with her temper and protective nature she has a habit of literally throwing riff-raff out of the saloon. As she raised Flint, she holds him to a high standard. His womanizing and laid-back ways drives her crazy. However she loves him deeply and always welcomes his return.
She is now being called Granna by Lilly, Bobby, and Banit after a certain confusing episode. She loves that the kids are calling her Granna, anyone else though is going to wake up a day or two later with a massive headache.
Introducing Pa
Paul “Pa” Arliss –deceased-
Red Angus Bull
Age: 45 Deceased September 23, 1879
Birthday: March 25, 1836
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 300
Clothing: Over-alls and a white shirt.
Personality: Loud, Overly Friendly, Caring. Late husband of Madelene Arliss, got the nickname of “Pa” as that’s what his initials are and because of his habit of telling “dad” jokes. Big guy with an even bigger heart, no one could ever say anything bad about him except that he was too trusting. He always saw the best in people. Always smelled of straw regardless of how long he lived in the city.
Favorite Food: Whatever Ma made. Vegetarian
Sexuality: Straight
History: Pa was childhood friends with Madelene Lucas as their family farms neighbored each other. Living on a farm he became very strong, however he wasn’t able to get a good education only completing the 6th grade before he had to take over the farm. When he was 20 he asked Madelene, then 16 to marry him. They then moved in together and discovered that they both wanted to quit farming and open a saloon. So, Pa sold his farm to Ma’s older brother and used the money to build what would become “The Greener Pasture”. Together, they created a saloon that thrived and that all people were welcome, so long as they paid up front and didn’t cause trouble. After discovering that Ma could not have children of her own, they took in a young otter and raised him. One day though Pa became sick, Doctors said that he had a cancer in his lungs. He died a year later. Ma continues to own and operate The Pasture in memory of him. He is buried in the Lucas family grave site.
