Introducing Banit

Clothing: Wears simple dresses with a fairly high hem mainly to keep her from stepping on it.

Personality: Happy and ditzy, is very enthusiastic about civilized culture. Banit is a bit of a klutz though. She greatly admires Flint, her admiration often turns amorous and Flint is often dragged into awkward situations because of it. While she is good with her hands and is smart, her clumsy nature led to her being named Banit Ka’ah which roughly translates to Bird Brain in Caddoan. She has the great talent of being able to trip over a shadow. Despite this she has learned English very well and has become a welcome member of the family. People are often surprised to learn that she is an Indian.

Favorite food: Most anything is good. Omnivorous

Hobbies: She loves reading and studying. She’s also good at making traditional Native American crafts and bead work.

Sexuality: Straight

History: As a young girl from the Caddo tribe she met a kind, civilized woman and was awestruck by her clothing and manners. She decided that she would become a civilized woman just like her, and as soon as she was of age she left the tribe. However as she did not speak English it was very hard for her to get by, but after seeing that travelers liked her bead work and traditional crafts she started selling them to buy food for herself. She takes every opportunity to learn more English and developed a basic but working knowledge of the language. Even so, being a “savage” meant that she was very resented by many people of Shreveport and was beaten several times because of it. That changed when she met Flint who saved her and sent her to Ma.
She calls Flint “Ah-ah emay” or ah-ah e-may, which is Caddo for Uncle.
She has taken Flint’s last name only because it’s easier for people to say and because her own is embarrassing for her.
After a certain incident she, like Lilly and Bobby, has started calling Flint “Papa” and misspoke Grandma with Granna and so renamed Ma “Granna”.
She’s gotten into Tulane University and wants to be a teacher so that she can share the knowledge that she’s been given.
