Sometimes I just stare in awe. I mean Mykiio you have gained mastery of drawing Lucario to the point where it is just form following function in every piece and detail. Not to mention when you drew Kiv as well—replicating the art style of the anime, but improving on it. Both Anatomy and shading Kiv looks natural in the scenery. I mean when I saw this on Kiv’s twitter I was a bit saddened that you did not submit it sooner. But I digress because this art is simplistic yet the focal point gets to the matter: just a trainer and his main Pokémon fishing. You do not overpopulate the background with too much, but pay attention to the little things, the lighthouse for example grabs your eye. I know I say this a lot but as an artist, it is a great honor when another tells them that their art is ‘Form Following Function’.
Thanks, I know a lot of my skill in drawing lucario comes from drawing it so often. And when I juxtaposed that with drawing a human anime-style, I realized how seldom I draw people, but I think I got the hang of it. The next pic I post will show more practice drawing humans. Also, I know I've heard that phrase before, but can you explain what "form following function" means? I don't think I ever fully understood its meaning.
Form following function is a principle that is associated to art and architecture of the 20th century by Louis Sullivan. It is based on something that is near flawless in its design to serve a specific function both organic and inorganic. It is a principle where function does not change in every piece and detail—and if it does change it improves on the existing design. Where function does not change, form does not change both physical and metaphysical. Form following function implies that that as long as the design can carry out the purpose of intent, without interfering with how it works, the visual or flow of the design serves its purpose. Does this make sense?
