Optimistically putting a "001" in the title as I currently intend to do more, we shall see what the future holds. For now, this was what I could manage today.
I wouldn't exactly say I'm "happy" with any of these- I'm using a type of paint I've got very little experience with, and I don't really have any suitable brushes which is causing some trouble here and there. All my brushes are too soft to really get along with acrylics. But all that said, with my current knowledge level with acrylics, I'm doing about how I'd expect, so I'm not disappointed either.
I find I'm having a weird amount of trouble with eyes... I guess it's because they're these tiny little intricate things that are super sensitive to detail, so if I accidentally lose track of my lines while painting and they change a little bit they can really end up looking terrible. For example, nearly every single eye in this picture, hah. Something for me to work on.
I spent most of these headshots just fiddling with techniques and getting a feel for the paint, without a clear idea of what style I wanted to head towards. Just playing around, hence the variance. I think I've got an idea in my mind though, so the next batch will hopefully be a bit more solidified... and hopefully better!

Nope, they're done with acrylic paint. And you've nailed one of the reasons I'm toying around with different paints in your comment- I've been really struggling to get watercolours to look as vibrant as I'd like. They tend to fade. Now I don't know much about acrylics, but already I'm easily able to get much more boldness and contrast than I ever could with watercolours.
Liquitex soft-body paints. I'm aiming to make things look as smooth as possible so I chose not to go for thicker paints to avoid holding on to brush strokes. I was a bit worried the thinner consistency would make them less vibrant but they seem to be pretty awesome so far.
As for gouache, that ended up being a bit of a nightmare. In my head it seemed idea- opaque paint so I can paint dark to light, but re-wetable so I don't have to worry about time and can blend out whenever I want. In practice, they don't seem nearly as powerful as acrylics and do a very poor job of painting light on dark, and it seems just about impossible to blend them after the fact without simply lifting the paint off and creating a big streaky mess.
I plan to revisit them now and then to see if I can make anything of them, but I suspect they're not what I'm going to end up using in the long run.

Makes sense, coming from a watercolor background. You didn't want to go for acrylic inks or high-flow types?
I've not really touched gouache, but I'm not surprised it'd lift. And actually, that Cotman's watercolor is the only type I've tried which doesn't also lift and mix all muddily. As usual, not that I'm any expert, I've just picked up sample tubes of different types to play around with.

I actually have some acrylic inks, but I found they weren't strong enough. They've got the bold bright colours of acrylic paint, but lack the opacity that I'm after. I want to be able to paint light colours on top of dark ones- half the reason I'm experimenting with acrylic paint is due to my frustration with the fact I can't do that in watercolor. :P
I generally work in watercolours. Watercolours require a super soft brush, since the paint is basically water you want something that can hold water easily and flow out readily, as well as being able to work overtop previous layers without scrubbing it up. Since watercolour is my main medium all my current tools are suited to it... unfortunatley, they're abysmal for acrylics. I have some cheapo general purpose brushes I bought but even those are too soft.
So I guess what I'm saying is for acrylics, I hate them too! I'm currently researching good brushes for acrylic but it's hard to find a solid answer. Everyone has different tastes and I don't want to buy stuff online only to find out it's the same as what I've already got, stiffness-wise. S'tricky.

Lol watercolor is what I mostly use when doing traditional. Idk I love the texture and blending a stiff brush gives. Proper watercolor brushes feel weird to use, like I have no control. Idk I'm n9 Profesional at watercolors that's just me xD
Good cheap acrylic bushes to practice with might be the ones I use. http://www.michaels.com/artists-lof.....4&start=47 this isn't my exact set I have more wide flat brushes and a fan brush but this is the brand and tip type. They're pretty firm without being super stiff. I use them for watercolors and acrylics

Look at all these cuties!
Thank you so much, Camille looks absolutely fantastic here!
I actually really like the variance too! They all look unique in some way, and I think it helps bring out personality <3
I can't wait to see how your style develops with these!

I think yours is probably my favourite of the bunch. I opted to outline the rest of the pictures in some fashion because I felt like it wasn't working well against the white background otherwise, but in a picture with a background I feel like yours would have looked the best.
Also, Jackalope. :D

Most of them are pretty rough and have some wonky spots. They're about what I'd expect myself to be doing with a new medium so far so I'm not terribly disappointed either, but they've got issues I'd want to work about before thinking about taking commissions with them, for example.
