2 Weeks ago I picked up 3 "Aerogarden" kits because they were on sale. Always wanted to try hydroponics, and at $13USD each I couldn't resist.

They included seed pods for Basil, Parsley, and Dill. The parsley and dill pods were dead, didn't sprout at all even after 4 days, the Basil grows well as you can see. I plucked the dead seeds out and put in some Black Seeded Simpson lettuce seeds, which had sprouted bigger than the basil the very next day!
I started them at night, so their auto-cycle turns the lights on around 8pm and off at 8am, so these have grown a good bit faster than the instructions said they would. I wasn't supposed to adjust the height of the lamps until week 4, and they weren't supposed to be this big until week 7!

And just like that I am severely hooked on exploring hydroponics further.


I'll be posting follow-up pictures of how the plucked lettuce recovers. I did my best to pick the leaves close to the stems so there's minimal damage left for the plants to repair. I'm hoping this can get me at least one salad per week. Also holy crap, the water reservoirs needed 2cm today alone!
