Whew, finally done with it, the first actual FUR suit I've made that isn't covered in scales or feathers. Been rough getting this one finished around a very stressful past few months of regular job. Just in time for Halloween, I now have a spectacled flying fox costume, woo!
Anyway, the usual materials/construction bit:
-Body suit is made from black luxury shag from Fabric.com and a brown long-pile I found at a local fabric store chain in Phoenix while attending AZFC. It has a lyrca liner layer to help with sweat and add stretch to the fur.
-Head blank, jawset, tongue, and claws are custom molds made by myself.
-Ears are made from Fosshape with 3/8" round door/window insulation foam slit in half and glued on for the ribbing.
-Eyes are from Tohickon taxidermy supply, with eyelids sculpted from epoxy clay.
-Wing bases are polycarbonate tubing connected by pvc joints and attached to sheet acrylic bracers via flexible vinyl tube and rivets. The wings are detachable from the body suit via sleeping-bag zippers running from mid-calf to elbow.
-Feet are based on BodyGlove minimalist toe shoes with foam extending the toes and a "thumb" added to the inner side.
-Fabric for wings/hands/feet/inner ears is a charcoal-gray stretchy faux leather i picked up in the cosplay section at Joann fabric & crafts.
-The suit was based on a tabletop RPG character I've been running for the last several months. There's no actual art of them yet, and all my reference material has been pics from Google image search and Wikipedia articles on the spectacled flying fox.
