few days ago i rewatch back the Matrix movies again, kinda brings me back to 2004 when i first saw the APU in action, i was so into the APU mech to the point i painted an APU fanart which took me a year to complete. and it was a proud achievement for myself, i have also found a new painting style as a result of this master piece. so here is a close up shot of the main APU that alphaleo pilots.
not really a fan or matrix but a fan of APU
it's been 6 year ago i painted this using a cheap genius tablet(i don't even know wacom exist at that time)

You know I always thought that, while the APU were really elegant and fantastic machines, their design was all sorts of busy, even for the under-slapped-together look they were going for. I found that all the rich details sort of got lost on the mass of metal they represented, much like with the transformes movie.
I was talking about this when I said cartoony and realistic. I like the mixture of the worn, somewhat corroded metal and the cartoony pilot.
I was wondering about something when I was watching this episode: If they could build sophisticated mechs like these, why the hell did they forget the sufficiently armored cockpit?
