The bottom half looks just fine. It goes wrong as it nears the top, to the point where I can no longer tell which is the riser and which is the tread. Perspective is indeed a fickle mistress.
Coincidentally, I was reading about and looking at pictures of spiral staircases last night. Did you use any reference pics, or just draw from a mental picture?
