In all honestly I was actually practicing quite a few concepts here, however the main ones I had in mind was practicing my storytelling and mood setting abilities.
While yes, a large part of being a good, nay- an effective artist- lies in ability to draw in general and to convey anatomy and dimensional space/surfaces. However, what I find personally as a comic artist to be a HUGE contributor to how good of an artist you are or can grow to be, is your capability to tell a story with your piece, or to draw out emotion or any sort of reaction (be it whichever reaction you like) from your viewers.
I always enjoy visually pleasing art, but for art to truly stick with me, it has to hit me with something, needs to make me ask questions that Hey! Maybe the piece will even answer for me if I digest and interpret it longer.
Art isn't strictly about what you see, it's about what you feel. And being an artist, to me, is about 'What can I make you feel?'
