"What were you doing in there?" Artemis asked a little incredulously as he finally seemed to be able to understand her again.
"Mining... From what I remember... Honestly it feels like a blur now." He paused as she poured something familiar into a cup, watching her as memory slowly reminded him he'd seen this before. This was a comfort and something within him stirred as he remembered more. "How... long was I asleep?"
"Not long." Artemis reassured him. "Dexter helped me get you in here, he's probably hailing the ship now." She pressed the cup full of warm brown liquid into his hand. "Drink this."
"Tempting but I'm afraid how well I'll handle it, I feel like i've swallowed lead shot."
Artemis tried to hide a smirk. "Maybe because when i found you, you were eating rocks."
"I was.... What...?"
"Hey don't ask me." She shrugged trying to hide her concern with a more gentle smile. "Truth be told I have less answers than you do... though you might want to look in a mirror..."
"I don't need to see how bad I look, I've been down there alone for a month doing tides know what with barely any food." The man curled his fingers around the warm cup, ready to take a drink. A welcome warmth in the cold environment around them.
"Well... yes but that's not what you need to see....."

Hmm, did the dragons collaborate with Uru to raid the lair and either capture it and/or commander Steele? Oh, and perhaps the enforced mining is to give Uru another/better surface access!

So, given what we know from the animatics and other future glimpses, I would guess that this is Artemis and Dexter breaking Darius out of whatever gulag Cabayo and his cohorts managed to get him tossed into. It sounds like while he was in, he either lost his translator (if he had one) or forgot how to speak English as it seems he didn't understand Artemis at first once she found him.
This looks to be the start of coming back from rock bottom for our heroes.

Yay for speculation! Time to add more buzz to it.
1. This scene has nothing to do with Cabayo.
2. Darius understands and speaks english perfectly and hasn't used his translator for quite some time being effectively Multi-lingual. (multiple earth languages, Several home-planet languages) He quickly learned english without the crutch of the translator (and soon a few others for other reasons) when Rain's teacher confronted him on why his daughter was speaking a foreign language and didn't seem to understand her. Having been raised from a baby in his care, his translator never "activated" around her and so when she learned how to speak for the first time, it was in imperial Alvarnian. So technically English is Rain's second language.
3. Thanks to being around Darnathi, and Artemis's particular talents. Artemis understands and can speak imperial Darnathi. At least by the time this occurs she knows the language. Which brings me to my final point:
4: There's a huge visual contradiction if this happened in the future. Especially if this is Darius as you've suggested.
