I don’t think "grab the boat and get out of there” is going to a valid course of action this time…

I'm certain that there must be a better solution for fighting Godzilla-class creatures than giant mechs. An orbital microwave cannon, a 100mm railgun shooting monocrystaline carbon rounds, drone swarms, guided asteroid impacts, modulated acid baths, tactical antimatter bombs, etc.
Ah, dang. Guess I'm a Star Trek person. Not a Gundam person.

Oh yes, I do most certainly agree. In fact, the time Pacific Rim came out, I specifically posted an image lampshading the absurdity of making giant fistfighting mechs. And yet, here we are today. I am now part of the absurdity.
In my defense, I specifically selected this character because I though I could make use of that centaurian frame as a weapons platform. Didn't end up working out though :P

You'd have to take some creative license with evolution and biology to make such things possible, like carbon-fiber reinforced bones, and a respiratory metabolism that either intakes a lot more oxygen, or doesn't require as much. And pretty much EVERY land surface for them would be like trying to walk in quicksand, unless their feet covered a lot more surface area. But you can solve all that if you postulate that they evolved an anti-gravity organ. And we won't get into the logistics of constructing a fighting machine that makes Big Muskie and the USS Ronald Reagan look like bathtub toys.
Anti gravity organs at least make more sense than relatively small wings on something that is 10 times larger than an elephant. I also reckon with all the destruction of property that giant monster movies are so fond of smashing a fist into a building would in reality be like you slapping a sender block, ever step on a toy car? that thing does not give. you want to keep the size but be real? have a monster slip on a car like a banana peel!
Toy cars are much sturdier in scale than real cars. If a Matchbox car were blown up to life-size, the body panels would be three inches thick, and it would weigh twenty tons. Matchbox cars are 1/64 scale, so the 22-gauge body panels on cars reduced down to that size would be twelve microns thick, and 6mm frame members would be about 100 microns thick. The whole toy would weigh 3 grams (less than a penny). A better analogy to cars would be making a toy car out of blades of grass and aluminum foil.
I also notice that some buildings can barely keep THEMSELVES up. Spontaneous collapses are all too common. A large kaiju would just need to rest its elbow on most buildings to bring them down, because they're designed only for their own weight, plus contents, plus wind and/or snow loads, plus a moderate safety margin.

yeah scale is a problem though the thought is just funny. however if a building made of concrete and steel can hardly keep itself up (and thats a structure that does not have to move) and crumble into rubble than a Kaiju made of bone and meat would surely turn into goop by the very same rule. Adding to the fact that the creature is mobile a smack on to any surface with that kind of wight and force, even slamming a foot into water would turn the creature into mince meat. (just think the damage a ship like the USS Ronald Reagan would take if it fell just 2 feet on an uneven surface). large heavy objects have a hard time stopping to, so even if you had a robot or creature of this size trying to stop or turn at speeds more than 5mph would be impossible and it would most likely topple over and flatten itself from its own weight. course you can write a book about the limits of size in engineering large machines and the limits of size in an organism.
Wooooooow gosh I must say that it's a big surprise! It must be the first time I see Rasaben Fireheart in a daylight piece (and that's frecking awesome!) and as usual your art is stunning and I'm soooo excited!
I'm so happy ;~; (Bonus fighting an amazing centaur like that would be giga impressive to see in motion. All the muscles, the way it would move in the Pacific Rim style of robot gnnn )

I am glad that you like it - I did have a persistent feel of dread about taking a deep dark character and then sticking them in stark daylight, far away and faded
The centaur fella is part of the reason it took so long to get this painting done - turns out, there's very little material to draw inspiration from for centaur mechs. But it was worth it just to have a character that can be both walking downhill and ready to crack some skulls at the same time.

The size of the arms was something that I was always keenly aware of, especially since I knew that the premise of the giant mechs of Pacific Rim (which this image is very much inspired on) was that theeyy were fistfighting mechs. Fistfighting presumes long reach, which presumes long arms. But I never could find an appealing nor true-to-character way to make them longer - afterall, the original character is very much a stubby armed, legged fat fellow which I was already downplaying.
Ah, the dilemma of such character conversions.
