Fendryss @ Argent Dawn EU
Fendryss’ story begins as a young child living in Ashenvale, in an isolated settlement who’s name has since been forgotten. She lived with her mother and father. Her mother was a skilled sword-wielder and a member of the sentinels. Her father was a herbalist and alchemist.
Fendryss would spend her early years wanting so much to becoming a sentinel like her mother, whom encouraged her desire by training her to use two swords at an early age. Life was pleasant for the small family.
However, it wasn’t to last. A small raiding party of demons left the Felwood borders for Ashenvale–a houndmaster and his pack of fel stalkers. Fendryss’ small village was one of the first settlements they found and set the hounds loose upon the innocent nightelven residents.
Had her parents not hidden her in a small cubby hole for herb-drying beneath the floorboards, Fendryss would have been devoured alive like her parents, the grisly sight she was forced to watch from beneath the floorboards. She was almost found by the beasts, but the herbs masked her scent just enough for them to be overwhelmed by the scent and lose interest.
After the houndmaster left with his fel stalkers. She took the pair of swords she had been training with and escaped to Darkshore where she stowed away on a boat to Stormwind.
Having little but the pair of blades to protect herself, she wandered the streets of Stormwind for weeks ‘till she was picked up by the Stormwind Orphanage.
It was clear that she had been mentally disturbed by the ordeal at Ashenvale. She was aggressive towards the matron and the other children. She had almost become akin to a feral child. She was eventually thrown out of the orphanage after, during one skittishly aggressive incident, biting the hand of the matron.
The only way she could survive from then on was stalking the darker streets of Stormwind, stealing food, begging for money and even having to resort to selling herself to the lowest dregs of society. She became savage, acting more animal than kaldorei child.
She eventually heard rumours from the similarly disaffected have-nots and former veterans of Stormwind’s shadier alcoves and alleyways who had lost something to the Legion from the Black Temple in Outland. Hearsay of a former night elf taking the fight to the Legion. But those were just rumours… and Fendryss was desperate to take her revenge on those who had ruined her life.
After begging for enough gold, she bribed a smuggler with everything she had to get her on a supply boat to the Blasted Lands where she meets up with 3 other hopefuls looking for vengeance and passed through the Dark Portal.
It was a treacherous journey. Through endless days of wandering and perilous efforts to survive the harsh Outland wildlife, her companions succumbed one by one. Either to the heat, disease, the deadly wildlife or having been captured by the Legion forces, Fendryss was the only one to reach the Temple. She was thankfully taken in by the Illidari recruiters.
Being just a young juvenile kaldorei among older, more experienced fighters, very little faith was put into her. However, the strength in her savagery came to light during her initiation. Using her family’s two blades she had always carried with her, she was forced to face the very beast that had ravaged her family–a pair of fel stalkers.
She sliced the first in two using her blades, but the second she tossed aside the swords and mauled it to death, tearing it to pieces with her hands and teeth. She tore open its chest while it struggled and consumed its heart, cursing the houndmaster that set them on her parents.
She was in pain for many days as the transformation occurred, but through strength of will, she fought it out. Like the other successful initiates, she transformed partly into a demon. In her case, half fel stalker. To complete her initiation, with the help of an Illidari blacksmith, reforged her family’s blades into a pair of glaives and imbued them with fel magic. She forsake her surname, having long since lost the family it was connected to and chose to be known by her first name alone.
Now in late adolescence and after many months of rigorous training, she accompanied the other Illidari in the defence of the Black Temple and, like the others, was captured and imprisoned by the vindictive Wardens.
With her release a decade later and the Legion once again invading Azeroth, its her personal mission to find the houndmaster who took everything from her and turned her into what she is today.
